New Delhi, October 6, 2026: A joint Indo-Argentine Army mountaineering expedition has successfully scaled Mt Kamet and Mt Abi Gamin in Uttarakhand, marking another milestone in growing military cooperation between India and Argentina.
Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth and Commodore Mariano Ruben Garbini of the Argentine Armed Forces jointly flagged in the expedition following the successful completion of the challenging mission.
Led by Lieutenant Colonel Chirag Chatterjee, the joint expedition comprised 25 Indian and 10 Argentine climbers. The team successfully summited Mt Kamet, standing at 7,756 metres, and Mt Abi Gamin, at 7,355 metres, despite difficult weather conditions and heavy snowfall in the high Himalayas.
The expedition tested the climbers’ endurance, teamwork and mountaineering skills as they operated at extreme altitudes and negotiated challenging terrain and rapidly changing weather conditions.

The latest expedition is the third joint mountaineering endeavour undertaken by the Indian and Argentine Armies. It builds on their successful joint ascents of Mt Aconcagua in Argentina and Mt Kun in Ladakh in 2025.
The Indian Army said the expedition reflected the trust, teamwork and camaraderie underpinning the expanding military relationship between the two countries.

Such joint expeditions also provide personnel from both armies an opportunity to work together in demanding environments, exchange mountaineering expertise and strengthen professional and interpersonal bonds.

The successful ascent of the two Himalayan peaks further highlights the growing defence engagement between India and Argentina, with adventure and mountaineering activities serving as an important avenue for enhancing military-to-military cooperation.
