Narayanpur Police and the 29th Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) recovered seven improvised explosive devices during a joint search and area-sanitisation operation in the Abujhmad region of Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district. The devices were destroyed on the spot by a bomb disposal team.
The operation covered the Maksoli–Bhatbeda–Rainar belt, extending from the Rainar camp. It was supervised by Superintendent of Police Sandeep Kumar Patel, ITBP 29th Battalion Commandant Abhishek Sood, and Additional Superintendent of Police (Operations) Akshay Sabdra. ETV Bharat has rendered the ASP’s surname as Sabadram.
The search in the Bhatbeda area was launched on 5 October 2026. Personnel noticed suspicious objects, secured the site, and carried out a detailed combing of the surrounding area. From a suspected dump they recovered six pressure-cooker IEDs and one pipe-bomb IED.
Fabrication material was also seized: one multimeter, one screwdriver, one soldering wire, one soldering iron, and three vehicle-opening keys. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohan, destroyed the explosives at the site under prescribed safety protocols.
Officials described the recovery as the result of sustained vigilance and coordination between Narayanpur Police and the ITBP, which have been conducting continuous searches in the forested belt. They said the action was intended to strengthen security arrangements and protect the public, and that operations of this nature remain necessary to deny anti-national elements space to plant or store explosives in remote parts of Abujhmad. Residents have been asked to report unusual activity to the nearest police or security post.
Abujhmad, spread largely across Narayanpur and adjoining districts, has long been a sensitive Left-Wing Extremism corridor. Pressure-cooker and pipe IEDs have repeatedly been recovered from hidden dumps in the region during joint police and ITBP operations. No arrest was reported in connection with this recovery.
