The visit focused on assessing the shipyard’s readiness to undertake future naval construction programmes as the Indian Navy continues its efforts to modernise and expand its fleet with indigenously built warships and submarines.

During the interaction, discussions centred on MDL’s capabilities, infrastructure and preparedness to meet the Indian Navy’s evolving operational and technological requirements.

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Navy’s future requirements and contributing to India’s long-term maritime security objectives.

MDL has played a significant role in strengthening India’s indigenous naval shipbuilding capabilities through its longstanding partnership with the Indian Navy. The Mumbai-based defence public sector undertaking has emerged as one of the country’s leading builders of frontline warships and submarines.

Over the years, the shipyard has been associated with several major naval construction programmes, including the construction of stealth destroyers, frigates and conventional submarines. Its contributions have been instrumental in enhancing the Indian Navy’s operational capabilities while reducing dependence on foreign shipbuilding facilities.

The collaboration between the Indian Navy and MDL has also supported the development of domestic expertise in complex naval engineering, advanced shipbuilding technologies and submarine construction.

As the Indian Navy prepares for its next phase of expansion, the shipyard is positioning itself to undertake future projects that will further strengthen India’s maritime defence capabilities.

The visit comes amid India’s continued emphasis on defence indigenisation and self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, with domestic shipyards expected to play a crucial role in meeting the Navy’s future fleet requirements.

MDL reiterated its readiness to build upon its longstanding association with the Indian Navy and contribute to the development of a stronger, technologically advanced and self-reliant maritime force.

The engagement underscores the importance of close coordination between the Indian Navy and domestic defence shipbuilders in ensuring timely execution of future naval programmes and strengthening India’s position as a major maritime power.
