Andaman and Nicobar Islands, October 22, 2026: Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty, AVSM, Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN), visited several remote locations across the Andaman archipelago, including Landfall Island, East Island and INS Kohassa, to review operational preparedness and ongoing capability enhancement initiatives.
During the visit, the senior naval officer assessed the operational readiness of deployed formations, reviewed measures aimed at strengthening military capabilities and evaluated logistical arrangements supporting personnel stationed in remote and strategically important locations.
Vice Admiral McCarty also interacted with personnel of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) serving in challenging conditions. He commended their exemplary professionalism, unwavering commitment and steadfast dedication to duty while acknowledging their contributions towards maintaining operational preparedness in the region.
The visit highlighted the importance of sustained logistical support, infrastructure development and capability enhancement in ensuring that military units deployed across the island territories remain prepared to respond to emerging operational requirements.
INS Kohassa, a naval air station located at Shibpur in North Andaman, plays an important role in supporting maritime surveillance and air operations in the northern Andaman region. Its strategic location contributes to India’s ability to monitor maritime activity and maintain a presence in the eastern Indian Ocean.

The Andaman and Nicobar Command is India’s first and only operational tri-service command, integrating personnel and capabilities of the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force under a unified command structure.

The visit reaffirmed the command’s continued emphasis on operational readiness, capability development and logistical sustainability across the strategically significant Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
