According to family members, the jawan—who had recently been promoted—was posted in Jammu and Kashmir and had gone to Shahjahanpur for training. His health reportedly deteriorated on December 23, following which he suffered a fatal cardiac arrest.

When his mortal remains reached his native village on Thursday, the scene was heart-rending. His wife, holding their two-year-old son, gently caressed his body, leaving family members, villagers, and fellow soldiers deeply emotional.

Final Farewell With Full Military Honours

The last rites of Naik Manjeet Singh were performed with full military honours. Subedar Major Maan Singh Chauhan said that Army and civil administration officials were present to pay their respects. Among those attending was Retd Havildar Gurdyal Singh (75) of 8 Sikh LI, who remembered the fallen soldier with pride.

The jawan’s niece, Rajwinder Kaur, said Manjeet Singh had come home on leave earlier in December and left directly for training on December 20. “He returned home only after his death,” she said, breaking down. His seven-year-old son Namandeep, supported by relatives, echoed the family’s grief.

Family members also recalled that Manjeet Singh had complained of chest pain during his leave and planned to get it checked during training.

Having served the nation for 12 years, Naik Manjeet Singh’s untimely demise has left a void in his family and unit. His sacrifice and service were remembered with solemn dignity as the nation bid farewell to a soldier who served till his last breath.
