A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Indian Army, Subedar Surjeet Singh, was killed in a firing incident inside a military camp in Samba district on Tuesday, officials said.
According to the defence spokesperson, Subedar Surjeet Singh sustained a gunshot wound and later succumbed to his injuries. The incident occurred while he was on operational duty in Jammu.
Paying tribute, the Rising Star Corps said the soldier made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.

Defence officials clarified that a terror angle has been ruled out. โThe incident is under investigation and further details will be shared as facts are established,โ the spokesperson added, as quoted by PTI.
The tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom across the unit. Senior officers and fellow soldiers paid their respects, remembering Subedar Surjeet Singh for his dedication, professionalism, and service to the nation.
The Indian Army reiterated its commitment to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and to provide full support to the bereaved family, honouring the sacrifice of a soldier who served the nation with courage and commitment.
