Major General Harinder Singh Mavi formally assumed command as Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North) at Kohima, Nagaland, on January 19, 2026.
He took over the charge from Major General Manish Kumar, Sena Medal (Bar), during a dignified handover ceremony conducted with traditional military customs and decorum. The ceremony marked a seamless transition of leadership in one of the most sensitive operational sectors of the country.
On assuming charge, Maj Gen Mavi paid tributes to the force’s legacy and acknowledged the contributions of his predecessor in maintaining operational effectiveness and stability in the region. He expressed confidence in the professionalism and dedication of all ranks and emphasised continued focus on operational readiness, people-centric engagement, and mission excellence.
The appointment underscores the Assam Rifles’ pivotal role in safeguarding the Northeast, strengthening border management, and supporting peace and development efforts across the region.
