Overcoming Personal Challenges

Life presented a major challenge when Aswin lost her father at the age of 14. The loss placed significant responsibilities on her shoulders at a young age.

Despite the emotional and financial hardships, she remained steadfast in her goals. Instead of letting adversity derail her ambitions, Aswin channelled her energy into education, sports and personal development.

Her resilience during this period became a defining trait that shaped her journey toward military service.

Academic Excellence and NCC Leadership

Determined to build a strong academic background, Aswin pursued a Master’s degree (MSc) in Computer Science. Alongside her studies, she joined the National Cadet Corps (NCC) with a clear vision of becoming an officer in the Indian Army.

Her commitment and leadership abilities soon began to shine at the national level.

Among her major achievements in NCC:

  • Gold Medal – Best Cadet at All India Thal Sainik Camp (2019)
  • Nomination for the Youth Exchange Programme
  • Prime Minister’s Award 2020 for securing first place in the digital forum

These accomplishments reflected not only her leadership skills but also her ability to excel in highly competitive environments.

Success at SSB and Entry into OTA Gaya

With unwavering determination, Aswin prepared for the Services Selection Board (SSB), one of the toughest officer selection processes in India.

Her perseverance paid off when she was recommended for officer training, fulfilling a long-cherished dream.

She subsequently joined the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Gaya under the Short Service Commission (Technical) Women Course, beginning the next phase of her transformation into a military leader.

Achieving the Gold Medal at OTA Gaya

During the demanding months of military training, Aswin displayed exceptional discipline, leadership and commitment.

Her consistent excellence earned her the Gold Medal for standing First in the Order of Merit of the Course, a prestigious recognition awarded to the best-performing cadet at the academy.

The honour reflects her all-round performance in academics, physical training, leadership and military skills.

An Inspiration for Future Aspirants

Battalion Under Officer Aswin Kirupai’s journey from a remote village to becoming the top cadet at OTA Gaya is a powerful example of how resilience and determination can overcome even the toughest obstacles.

Her story inspires thousands of young aspirants, particularly women, who dream of serving in the Indian Armed Forces.

By staying focused on her purpose and refusing to give up in the face of adversity, she has proven that persistence, courage and dedication can turn aspirations into remarkable achievements.
