Lieutenant General Balakrishnan Jayan has assumed charge as the Director General Dental Services (DGDS), succeeding Lieutenant General Vineet Sharma, who superannuated after an illustrious career spanning nearly four decades in military service.
The change of leadership marks an important transition for the Army Dental Corps and the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS).

On the occasion, Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), extended her heartfelt congratulations to Lt Gen Balakrishnan Jayan and conveyed her best wishes for a successful tenure as the head of military dental services.
Lt Gen Jayan assumes the appointment at a time when the Armed Forces Medical Services continue to focus on enhancing healthcare delivery, adopting advanced medical technologies and strengthening patient-centric care across the Armed Forces.
The DGAFMS also paid tribute to the outgoing Director General Dental Services, Lt Gen Vineet Sharma, for his distinguished service and invaluable contributions to military dentistry and healthcare.
During his tenure, Lt Gen Sharma played a significant role in advancing modernization, academic excellence, clinical innovation and professional standards within the Army Dental Corps. His leadership contributed to strengthening dental healthcare infrastructure and enhancing the quality of care provided to serving personnel, veterans and their families.
Officials noted that Lt Gen Balakrishnan Jayan’s assumption of office will ensure continuity in the ongoing efforts to further strengthen military dental services while advancing the mission of the Armed Forces Medical Services in support of operational readiness and personnel welfare.
