Lt Col Baibhav Sen’s Wife Shinjini Sen Wins Double Gold in Powerlifting

In a remarkable display of strength, discipline and determination, Mrs Shinjini Sen, spouse of Lieutenant Colonel Baibhav Sen of Embarkation Headquarters Mumbai, secured gold medals in both the Bench Press and Deadlift events at the Amateur Powerlifting Championship held in New Delhi. Competing against talented powerlifters, Shinjini Sen delivered an outstanding performance in two of the most physically demanding disciplines of powerlifting. Her success in both the Bench Press and Deadlift categories highlighted not only her physical strength but also the months of preparation, technical training and mental conditioning required to perform at a competitive level.

Powerlifting demands exceptional focus, consistency and control. The Bench Press tests an athlete’s upper-body strength, technique and stability, while the Deadlift requires tremendous power, coordination and determination. Winning gold medals in both disciplines at the same championship is therefore a significant achievement and reflects Shinjini’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of physical fitness.

Her double-gold performance at IHFF 2026 has brought immense pride to her family and the wider military community. As the spouse of a serving Indian Army officer, she represents the resilience, adaptability and fighting spirit that have long been associated with Army families. Military spouses frequently manage changing responsibilities, relocations and periods of separation while continuing to pursue their own personal and professional ambitions.

Despite the demanding nature of life in a military family, Shinjini remained committed to her passion for fitness and competitive sport. Her journey demonstrates that dedication and perseverance can transform personal interests into extraordinary achievements. By stepping onto a competitive platform and emerging victorious, she has also challenged conventional perceptions and encouraged other women to explore strength sports.

The Amateur Powerlifting Championship provided athletes with an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities before fitness professionals, sportspersons and enthusiasts gathered at the International Health, Sports & Fitness Expo. IHFF is recognised as a major platform for India’s health, fitness and sporting community, bringing together athletes, trainers, industry experts and organisations associated with physical well-being and competitive fitness.

Shinjini’s success at such a prominent event underlines the growing participation of women in powerlifting and other strength-based sports. Women athletes across India are increasingly breaking barriers in disciplines that were once largely dominated by men. Their accomplishments are helping reshape public perceptions about women’s physical strength and inspiring a new generation to pursue fitness with confidence.

Her achievement also carries a powerful message for military spouses. While supporting their partners in demanding careers devoted to national service, Army spouses often establish their own identities and excel in diverse areas such as education, entrepreneurship, social service, arts and sports. Shinjini’s victory is another example of how members of the military community continue to achieve excellence beyond the traditional boundaries of service life.

The discipline required in competitive powerlifting shares several qualities with the ethos of the Armed Forces. Both demand consistency, courage, resilience and the ability to remain focused under pressure. Every successful lift is the result of repeated practice, strict adherence to technique and the determination to overcome physical and mental limitations.

By winning gold medals in both Bench Press and Deadlift, Shinjini has set a commendable benchmark for aspiring athletes. Her accomplishment illustrates that strength is developed not merely through physical training but also through patience, self-belief and the willingness to persevere through challenges.

Her victory has been widely appreciated as a proud moment for Embarkation Headquarters Mumbai and the Army fraternity. It celebrates the contribution and achievements of military spouses who continue to distinguish themselves in their chosen fields while remaining an integral part of the Armed Forces community.

Shinjini Sen’s inspiring performance at IHFF 2026 stands as a testament to the limitless potential of women who pursue their goals with determination. Her journey from rigorous training sessions to the championship podium is a reminder that barriers can be overcome through discipline and sustained effort.

As she returns from the Amateur Powerlifting Championship with two gold medals, Shinjini carries with her more than sporting honours. She has emerged as a symbol of empowerment and an inspiration for military spouses and fitness enthusiasts to recognise their capabilities, pursue their passions and strive for excellence in every field they choose.
