Major General Sukhbir Singh Chopra has assumed the appointment of Commandant, Command Military Dental Centre (Central Command), or CMDC (CC), and Command Dental Advisor following his promotion, marking another significant milestone in his distinguished career with the Armed Forces Medical Services.
Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), congratulated Maj Gen Chopra on taking over the important appointment and extended her best wishes for his new responsibilities.
Maj Gen Sukhbir Singh Chopra is a nationally renowned orthodontist with more than three decades of distinguished service in the Armed Forces. During his career, he has served with both the Indian Navy and the Indian Army and has built extensive experience across clinical dentistry, academics, administration and leadership.
As a specialist in orthodontics, Maj Gen Chopra has contributed significantly to the field of military dental healthcare while also holding several key academic and clinical appointments. His professional journey has involved the treatment and management of complex dental and orthodontic cases as well as responsibilities connected with the training and professional development of dental officers.
Over the years, he has also served in important administrative positions, giving him considerable experience in managing dental healthcare establishments and overseeing the delivery of specialised dental services to Armed Forces personnel and their dependants.
In his new role as Commandant of CMDC (CC), Maj Gen Chopra will be responsible for leading one of the important dental establishments functioning under Central Command. The centre provides specialised dental care while also contributing to professional training, clinical development and the overall dental health preparedness of personnel serving in the region.
As Command Dental Advisor, he will additionally have an important advisory role in matters related to dental healthcare policy, clinical standards, manpower utilisation, professional training and the delivery of comprehensive dental services across formations under the Command.
Maj Gen Chopra takes over the appointment from Major General ID Roy, an eminent Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who served in the position with distinction. Maj Gen Roy’s tenure was marked by his professional expertise and leadership in the field of military dental healthcare.
The change of command represents continuity in the Armed Forces’ emphasis on maintaining high standards of specialised medical and dental care for serving personnel. Dental officers of the Armed Forces Dental Services routinely operate across peace stations, field formations and challenging operational environments, making effective leadership and clinical preparedness particularly important.
The Armed Forces Medical Services maintains an extensive network of hospitals, medical establishments and specialised centres responsible for providing healthcare to personnel of the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. Within this framework, the Armed Forces Dental Services plays a specialised role in preventive dentistry, restorative care, oral surgery, orthodontics, prosthodontics and other advanced branches of dental medicine.
With more than three decades of professional experience and a combination of clinical, academic and administrative expertise, Maj Gen Sukhbir Singh Chopra is expected to further strengthen specialised dental healthcare, professional training and institutional excellence in his new appointment as Commandant CMDC (CC) and Command Dental Advisor.
