Air Marshal Inderpal Singh Walia, AVSM, VM, AOC-in-C, Eastern Air Command, paid a solemn visit to the Assam Rifles War Memorial at Headquarters Directorate General Assam Rifles, Shillong, on August 17, 2026.
During the visit, Air Marshal Walia laid a wreath at the War Memorial and paid homage to the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation. The ceremony honoured their courage, valour and selfless devotion to duty, with their legacy continuing to inspire generations of service personnel.
The AOC-in-C also interacted with officers and jawans of Assam Rifles during his visit. He appreciated their professionalism, dedication and unwavering commitment to duty while serving in the challenging terrain of the North Eastern region.
Air Marshal Walia commended the troops for maintaining high standards of operational preparedness and for their steadfast contribution towards maintaining security and stability in the region.
The interaction also provided an opportunity to acknowledge personnel who have demonstrated commendable performance and dedication in the discharge of their duties.
During the visit, Dy Comdt Angam Zimik, WO Aswini Patgiri and Rfn Virendra Singh were awarded the AOC-in-C, Eastern Air Command Commendation Card in recognition of their commendable performance, dedication and service.
The visit highlighted the enduring importance of remembering the sacrifices of fallen heroes while recognising the professionalism and commitment of personnel continuing to serve in demanding operational environments.
