New Delhi: A 26-year-old Indian Army jawan was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a hotel room in southwest Delhi’s Satya Niketan area on Saturday, August 22, 2026. Police recovered a suicide note from the room that did not contain any allegations against any individual.
The deceased has been identified as Anil Sai Tejja Vallepu (also referred to in some reports as Anil Sai Teja Vallepu), a resident of Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh (with one report specifying Macherla). He was serving in the Indian Army and was posted in Hisar (Hisar Cantonment), Haryana.
A PCR call was received at the South Campus police station around 12:19–12:20 pm on Saturday reporting that a person had allegedly died by suicide by hanging at Hotel Blue Moon Inn in Satya Niketan. Police personnel reached the hotel and found the man hanging from the ceiling fan inside the room.
The Crime Team was called to the spot and examined the scene as part of the investigation. A suicide note was recovered from the room. According to police, the note did not name or make allegations against any person.
A preliminary inquiry revealed that Vallepu had checked into the hotel on August 19, 2026, and had been staying there alone. One report indicated the check-in occurred around 3:35 pm that day. He remained at the hotel until the discovery of his body three days later.
Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the death and verifying the sequence of events preceding the incident. The body was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital for further necessary proceedings, including a post-mortem examination.
Proceedings are being conducted under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which deals with the police inquiry and report in cases of suicide.
No further details regarding the contents of the suicide note, the jawan’s specific unit, rank beyond “jawan,” or the reason for his stay in Delhi have been publicly disclosed in official police statements so far. There has been no immediate official statement from the Indian Army in the available reports.
Police continue to look into the matter. The case remains under investigation, with authorities focusing on establishing the full circumstances of the incident.
This report is based on consistent accounts from Delhi Police statements as carried by multiple national media outlets. Further updates are expected as the inquiry progresses and the post-mortem findings become available.
