The Indian Coast Guard welcomed Major General Luong Dinh Hung, Vice Commandant, Vietnam Coast Guard, along with a six-member delegation and Vietnam Coast Guard Ship CSB 8002 at Chennai on August 24, 2026, as part of efforts to further strengthen maritime cooperation between India and Vietnam.
The visit provided an opportunity for senior representatives of the two coast guards to exchange perspectives and reinforce the longstanding maritime partnership between the two countries. The engagement focused on strengthening professional ties and enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual maritime interest.
The Vietnamese delegation interacted with Inspector General Yoginder Dhaka, TM, Commander, Coast Guard Region (East), in Chennai. The discussions provided an important platform for exchanging views on maritime security and exploring avenues for deeper cooperation between the two maritime security forces.
As part of the visit, the Vietnam Coast Guard delegation visited L&T Shipbuilding at Kattupalli. The visit familiarised the delegation with India’s growing indigenous shipbuilding capabilities, including ongoing construction activities and the technological ecosystem supporting the country’s maritime sector.
The interaction with India’s shipbuilding industry also highlighted the progress made under India’s broader push towards indigenous defence and maritime manufacturing. The growing capabilities of Indian shipyards provide an important foundation for strengthening maritime security and enhancing cooperation with partner countries.
The visit of Major General Luong Dinh Hung and the Vietnam Coast Guard delegation reflects the expanding India-Vietnam maritime partnership and the importance both countries attach to maintaining a secure, stable and rules-based maritime environment.
