The Trishakti Corps has flagged off a 24-member mountaineering team for an expedition to Mount Domekhang, a 7,264-metre peak in North Sikkim, marking another challenging high-altitude undertaking by the Indian Army.
The expedition, titled “Arohan Ajeya”, is aimed at testing the physical endurance, technical mountaineering skills, teamwork and mental resilience of the participating personnel in the demanding Himalayan environment.
The team will undertake the ascent in the high-altitude terrain of North Sikkim, where steep slopes, extreme weather conditions, low temperatures and reduced oxygen levels present significant challenges to mountaineers.
The expedition is expected to require careful planning, acclimatisation and coordinated movement as the team negotiates the difficult terrain towards the summit. Operating at elevations exceeding 7,000 metres requires considerable physical conditioning and the ability to function effectively in severe environmental conditions.
The expedition also provides an opportunity for Army personnel to further develop their high-altitude mountaineering skills and experience. Such expeditions contribute to building confidence, resilience and teamwork among troops who operate in some of the most challenging mountainous environments.
The 24-member team will rely on collective effort and disciplined execution throughout the expedition. The demanding climb will test not only individual capability but also the ability of team members to support one another and operate cohesively in extreme conditions.
The flag-off by the General Officer Commanding, Trishakti Corps, marked the formal commencement of the expedition and served as an encouragement to the team as it prepares for the challenging ascent.
The initiative reflects the Indian Army’s continued emphasis on adventure activities and mountaineering as important avenues for developing leadership, physical fitness, mental toughness and a spirit of perseverance among its personnel.
Mount Domekhang, rising to 7,264 metres in the eastern Himalayas, will provide the expedition team with a formidable test of its mountaineering capability and preparation.
