Commodore YV Ramakrishna assumed charge as the 29th Officer-in-Charge of the Indian Naval Institute of Hydrography (INI Goa) on 31 August 2026, succeeding Commodore Sajeev K Nair, who superannuated after a distinguished career spanning 34 years of commissioned service.
Cmde YV Ramakrishna was commissioned into the Executive Branch Hydro Cadre of the Indian Navy on 01 July 1997. An experienced hydrographic officer and specialised Charge Surveyor, he brings extensive operational, technical and instructional experience to his new appointment.
The Commodore is an alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington, and the College of Defence Management (CDM), Secunderabad. He has also undergone the International Hydrographic Management and Engineering Programme (IHMEP) at the Naval Oceanographic Office, Mississippi, USA, as well as an Ice Navigation course in Argentina.
During his distinguished naval career, Cmde Ramakrishna has commanded several important hydrographic survey vessels, including INS Jamuna and INS Nirupak. His operational experience in hydrography and specialised maritime surveying has contributed to the Indian Navy’s capabilities in charting, navigation support and other hydrographic requirements.
His staff appointments have included tenures at the Indian Naval Hydrographic Office (INHO), Dehradun, and the College of Defence Management, Secunderabad. These assignments have provided him with extensive exposure to both specialised naval operations and institutional management.
The change of command marks the continuation of leadership at the establishment, with Cmde Ramakrishna expected to build upon the professional standards and institutional legacy established by his predecessor.
The Indian Navy also acknowledged the distinguished service of Cmde Sajeev K Nair, who relinquished the appointment on superannuation after 34 years of commissioned service.
With his specialised experience in hydrography, command and staff appointments, Cmde YV Ramakrishna assumes the responsibility with a strong professional background, as the Indian Navy continues to strengthen its hydrographic, navigational and maritime support capabilities.
