Officer Cadet Mohit Arora from Phagwara in Punjab’s Kapurthala district has turned a seven-year pursuit into the fulfilment of a lifelong dream of serving the nation in uniform. The son of an ex-serviceman from the Army Postal Service, Mohit grew up watching his father wear the Olive Green uniform and regarded him as his role model. That early exposure to military life planted in him an aspiration that would eventually become the defining goal of his career.

For Mohit, the dream of becoming an Army officer was not a passing ambition. Inspired by his father’s service, he nurtured the desire to one day follow the same path and serve the nation as an officer. The journey, however, required him to make difficult choices and remain committed to his objective even when other prestigious career opportunities came his way.

A bright and academically accomplished student, Mohit completed his Class X education from Army Public School, Kolkata, before pursuing his Class XII studies at Army Public School, Jalandhar Cantonment. His academic foundation reflected the disciplined environment in which he had grown up and provided the platform for his higher education.

He subsequently pursued a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Physics from Lovely Professional University. His performance at the university was marked by distinction, demonstrating his academic capability and commitment to excellence. His education in Physics also reflected a strong analytical foundation, complementing the determination that had already become central to his pursuit of a military career.

Mohit’s academic achievements opened several avenues beyond the Armed Forces. He appeared for the Common Admission Test and secured the 93rd percentile in CAT 2022. He continued his preparation and improved his performance further, securing the 97th percentile in CAT 2023.

His CAT performance resulted in admission offers from three prestigious Indian Institutes of Management—Amritsar, Nagpur and Jammu. These opportunities represented a conventional path towards a successful corporate career and offered him the prospect of pursuing management education at some of India’s premier institutions.

Yet, despite having prestigious alternatives available, Mohit remained focused on the dream that had guided him since childhood. Rather than allowing academic and professional opportunities to divert him from his objective, he chose to continue pursuing the Olive Green.

His decision demonstrates the significance of purpose in his journey. The choice was not between success and failure, but between two different definitions of success. While an IIM education could have opened doors to a lucrative corporate career, Mohit’s long-standing aspiration was to serve the nation as an Army officer.

The road towards that goal tested his resolve repeatedly. The journey stretched across seven years, requiring patience and sustained effort. Instead of abandoning his ambition when faced with setbacks, Mohit continued working towards it with determination.

His perseverance eventually translated into a major breakthrough when he secured All India Rank 212, earning his place in the Indian Army. The achievement marked the culmination of years of preparation and persistence and brought him closer to the dream inspired by his father’s military service.

For Mohit, the significance of the achievement extends beyond the rank itself. It represents the fulfilment of an aspiration that began while watching his father serve in uniform. From those early impressions of the Olive Green to earning his own place in the Army, his journey has been shaped by a consistent desire to follow a path of service.

His academic record makes the decision even more noteworthy. With distinction in his BSc (Honours) in Physics, strong CAT performances and admission offers from multiple IIMs, Mohit had established himself as a candidate capable of pursuing several highly competitive career paths. His decision to remain committed to the Armed Forces therefore reflected a conscious prioritisation of his military ambition.

The seven-year journey also highlights the importance of perseverance in achieving long-term goals. Aspirations of this nature rarely materialise overnight. They require individuals to remain focused through uncertainty, setbacks and alternative opportunities. Mohit’s experience illustrates how sustained determination can eventually convert a long-held ambition into reality.

His father’s influence remained a constant throughout this journey. As an ex-serviceman of the Army Postal Service, his father served as both a role model and an early source of inspiration. The uniform that Mohit saw during his childhood eventually became the uniform he himself aspired to wear.

Now at the Officers Training Academy, Gaya, Mohit enters another demanding phase of his journey. The academy will require him to translate years of aspiration and preparation into the qualities expected of an Army officer—discipline, physical resilience, mental robustness, teamwork and leadership.

His story also carries a message for young aspirants who may find themselves confronted by setbacks or competing opportunities. Academic excellence and professional success can open many doors, but identifying a genuine sense of purpose and remaining committed to it can require an entirely different kind of determination.

From Phagwara to Army Public Schools in Kolkata and Jalandhar Cantonment, from a Physics degree at Lovely Professional University to high CAT percentiles and IIM admission offers, Mohit’s journey reflects a remarkable range of achievements. Yet throughout these milestones, one ambition remained constant: to serve the nation in uniform.

Seven years of perseverance have now brought that dream within reach. As Officer Cadet Mohit Arora continues his training at OTA Gaya, his journey stands as an example of how inspiration drawn from family, combined with determination and patience, can help an individual stay the course despite formidable alternatives and repeated challenges.

His story ultimately demonstrates that the most meaningful destination is sometimes the one that takes the longest to reach. For Mohit Arora, the Olive Green was not simply another career option. It was the dream he chose to pursue—and after seven years of perseverance, he has taken a decisive step towards making that dream a reality.
