Bahraich, September 23, 2026: A 41-year-old Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) constable posted with the 59th Battalion died on Tuesday evening after collapsing at his government quarters in the Nanpara area of Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh.
The deceased has been identified as Constable Gyaneshwar D. Patil, a resident of Patonde village in Chalisgaon tehsil of Jalgaon district, Maharashtra. He was born on 5 June 1985 and was residing in the unit’s family lines with his family at the time of the incident.
According to officials, Patil suddenly lost consciousness at his official accommodation. Personnel immediately shifted him to the battalion’s Medical Inspection (MI) Room, where medical staff administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in an attempt to revive him. When his condition did not improve, he was taken by ambulance to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Nanpara. Dr Santosh Yadav, the attending medical officer at the CHC, examined him and declared him dead. There were no visible injury marks on the body.
Some reports indicated that Patil had complained of heaviness in the chest earlier that day and had undergone an echocardiography examination at a private hospital in Bahraich before returning to his quarters. He later experienced vomiting and became unconscious. His wife informed unit authorities, after which fellow personnel rushed him for medical aid.
Deputy Commandant Vijay Kaswa of the 59th Battalion stated that a heart attack is suspected. The exact cause of death has not been confirmed. A post-mortem examination was scheduled for Wednesday to determine the precise medical cause. SSB officials have informed the concerned authorities and the constable’s family.
Patil is survived by his wife Rekha, brother Gulab, and children Rudra and Aaradhya. The incident has left colleagues at the 59th Battalion, which is deployed along the India–Nepal border, in mourning. Further details will depend on the post-mortem findings and any subsequent official communication from the force.
