Major (Dr) Jacqueline Jacinta Dias of the Indian Army Dental Corps has been awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, adding a significant international professional distinction to her career in military dentistry.
The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is among the oldest surgical institutions in the world. Its Faculty of Dental Surgery awards the Fellowship in Dental Surgery (FDS RCSEd) as a recognised marker of professional excellence, clinical competence and adherence to high standards of patient care. The fellowship is regarded internationally as an important professional credential in dentistry.
The achievement was reported from Panjim on 26 September 2026 and adds to Major Dias’s record of academic excellence, specialist dental practice and leadership appointments in the Indian Army.
Background and earlier command appointment
Major Dias hails from Mapusa in Bardez, Goa. She is the daughter of Group Captain Joe Peter Matthew Dias (retired), Indian Air Force, and Anne Elizabeth Dias, both originally from Mapusa. Inspired by her father’s service, she pursued a career in uniform after distinguishing herself academically as a gold medallist and university topper in her dental studies. She specialises in periodontics.
In August 2025, she was appointed Officer Commanding of the Indian Army Overseas Dental Institution in Bhutan, an important overseas assignment involving specialised dental care as well as administrative and leadership responsibilities.
The posting placed her in charge of providing dental services to personnel while also contributing to the broader framework of India-Bhutan defence cooperation. Contemporary reports highlighted the appointment as a notable overseas responsibility for the Goa-born Army officer.
