Dehradun, October 5, 2026: The National Hydrographic Office (NHO), Dehradun, hosted Shaurya Chakra awardee Lieutenant Commander Roopa A on Monday for an inspiring motivational interaction with naval and civilian personnel as well as students from schools and colleges.
Lt Cdr Roopa A, one of only two women officers across the three Armed Forces to have been awarded the Shaurya Chakra, shared experiences from her extraordinary 238-day circumnavigation of the globe by sea.
During the interaction, the naval officer spoke about the formidable challenges encountered during the long voyage, highlighting moments of courage, endurance, uncertainty and determination while sailing across the world’s oceans.
Her account offered the audience insights into the physical and mental resilience required to undertake such a demanding maritime expedition. She also highlighted the importance of leadership, teamwork, perseverance and remaining composed while confronting difficult and unpredictable situations at sea.

The session was attended by naval and civilian staff of NHO Dehradun along with students from various schools and colleges. Her experiences particularly encouraged the young participants to approach challenges with confidence and determination.
The interaction highlighted how lessons drawn from demanding military and maritime expeditions can inspire young people to develop resilience, leadership qualities and a strong spirit of perseverance.
