New Delhi, October 6, 2026: Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth inaugurated the Mission Autonomy Lab and Sensor-Shooter Integration Lab at the Directorate General of Information Systems (DGIS), marking another step in the Indian Army’s push towards becoming a technology-enabled and future-ready force.
The newly established laboratories are designed to strengthen the Army’s ability to test, integrate and rapidly transition emerging technologies from laboratory environments to operational battlefields. The facilities will focus on autonomy, data-centric operations and closer integration between sensors and weapon systems.
The Mission Autonomy Lab will facilitate the testing and integration of autonomous technologies for military applications. Such capabilities are becoming increasingly important in modern warfare as armed forces incorporate unmanned platforms, artificial intelligence, advanced sensors and automated systems into battlefield operations.
The Sensor-Shooter Integration Lab will focus on strengthening connectivity between battlefield sensors, command-and-control networks and weapon platforms. Effective sensor-to-shooter integration can significantly reduce the time between detecting a target, processing and sharing information, taking a decision and engaging it with an appropriate weapon system.
According to the Indian Army, the laboratories will help translate emerging technologies into battlefield-ready capabilities, enabling faster adoption of new systems and providing commanders and troops with greater operational advantage.
During the inauguration, General Seth reiterated the vision of VIJAY and emphasised innovation, integration and Atmanirbharta as key elements in building an agile, technology-enabled and future-ready Indian Army.

The establishment of the two laboratories at DGIS reflects the Army’s increasing focus on networked warfare, autonomous systems and data-driven operations as it prepares for increasingly complex and technology-intensive battlefields.

The initiative seeks to shorten the journey from technological development to operational deployment, allowing promising solutions to be tested, integrated and adapted according to battlefield requirements. The broader objective is to transform technology into capability and capability into decisive combat advantage.
