Ahilyanagar, October 9, 2026: In a significant milestone for military education and Army-academia collaboration, officers undergoing the Tank Technology Course at the Indian Army’s Armoured Corps Centre and School (ACC&S) in Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra, have been awarded Master of Technology (M.Tech) degrees by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar for the first time.
The degrees were formally conferred during a ceremony by Professor Rajeev Ahuja, Director of IIT Ropar, marking an important development in the integration of advanced technical education with professional military training.
The initiative represents a major step towards strengthening the technical expertise of Indian Army officers, particularly those associated with armoured warfare, tank technology and modern battlefield systems.
During the ceremony, officers who successfully completed the Tank Technology Course received academic recognition for their specialised technical training. The collaboration between the Indian Army and IIT Ropar highlights the increasing importance of advanced engineering knowledge and technological expertise in modern military operations.

A photograph from the award ceremony of Tank Technology Course-54 (TTC-54) also shows Captain Abhishek Kumar receiving the Commandant ACC&S Rolling Trophy and Commandant’s Gold Medal. The awards recognise his achievement during the course and mark a significant professional milestone in his military career.

The Armoured Corps Centre and School is one of the Indian Army’s premier training establishments, responsible for developing professional expertise in armoured warfare, tank operations, technical systems and associated military disciplines. The institution plays a crucial role in preparing officers and personnel for the operational and technological challenges of modern mechanised warfare.
The Tank Technology Course focuses on developing specialised knowledge of armoured fighting vehicles and related technologies. Such training is particularly important as modern tanks increasingly incorporate sophisticated electronics, fire-control systems, sensors, communication equipment and advanced protection technologies.
The partnership with IIT Ropar provides an academic dimension to specialised military training, connecting professional military education with the expertise of one of India’s leading technical institutions.
The awarding of M.Tech degrees reflects the Indian Army’s emphasis on encouraging higher technical qualifications among its officers while promoting research-oriented learning and professional development.
As military technology continues to evolve, advanced engineering education is becoming increasingly important for understanding, operating and maintaining complex weapon platforms. Collaboration between military training institutions and academic organisations can contribute to innovation, technological self-reliance and the development of future military capabilities.
The initiative also aligns with the Indian Army’s broader efforts to modernise its training ecosystem and strengthen indigenous technological capabilities through closer engagement with academic and research institutions.
The first-ever conferment of M.Tech degrees by IIT Ropar to officers of the Tank Technology Course marks an important achievement for the Armoured Corps Centre and School, reinforcing the Indian Army’s commitment to technical excellence, professional military education and technology-driven capability development.
