Bengaluru: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Dhiraj Seth visited the 515 Army Base Workshop in Bengaluru, where he reviewed key initiatives focused on advanced manufacturing, indigenous drone development and emerging technologies aimed at strengthening the Indian Army’s operational capabilities and technological self-reliance.
During the visit, General Seth assessed ongoing efforts in advanced manufacturing and the development of indigenous unmanned aerial systems. He also reviewed emerging technologies, including Additive Manufacturing, Quantum Technologies and Space Technologies, which have the potential to enhance the Army’s maintenance capabilities, equipment availability and overall operational readiness.

The Army Chief appreciated the workshop’s efforts to leverage indigenous innovation to improve equipment availability and ensure that military platforms and systems remain operationally ready. He highlighted the importance of adopting modern technologies to address evolving battlefield requirements and reduce dependence on external sources.
The visit also provided an opportunity for General Seth to interact with representatives from industry and academia. During these engagements, he emphasised the need for collaborative research and development, effective technology absorption and stronger partnerships between the military, research institutions and domestic industries.

He underscored that closer cooperation among these stakeholders would accelerate capability development and support the Indian Army’s transformation into a technologically advanced, self-reliant and future-ready force.
The focus on indigenous drone development and advanced manufacturing reflects the Army’s broader push towards Atmanirbhar Bharat, with domestic innovation playing an increasingly important role in strengthening defence preparedness.
Technologies such as additive manufacturing can support the production of specialised components and spare parts, potentially reducing maintenance delays and improving equipment availability. Meanwhile, developments in quantum and space technologies offer opportunities to strengthen future military communications, navigation and other operational capabilities.
The initiatives reviewed at the 515 Army Base Workshop highlight the growing emphasis on integrating emerging technologies with military maintenance, manufacturing and operational support systems.
The Indian Army described the visit under the theme “Innovating Today. Mission Ready Tomorrow,” reflecting its commitment to indigenous innovation, collaborative technological development and enhanced operational preparedness.
