New Delhi, October 15, 2026: The Ministry of Home Affairs has approved the promotion of Ashok Yadav, IPS (Kerala cadre, 1998 batch), from the rank of Inspector General to Additional Director General (ADG) in the Border Security Force (BSF).
Shri Yadav, who was serving as Inspector General in the BSF, has been appointed ADG at Level 15 of the pay matrix. His tenure as ADG will be for three years from the date of assumption of charge or until October 25, 2029, whichever is earlier. This appointment completes a combined central deputation tenure of seven years in the BSF.
Ashok Yadav, a direct recruit officer (IPS ID: 19981046) belonging to Rajasthan by domicile, joined the Indian Police Service on September 7, 1998. He was appointed Inspector General in the BSF in October 2022 for an initial five-year deputation period and has since served in key operational roles within the force, including as IG of the BSF Kashmir Frontier.
In 2025, while posted as IG, BSF Kashmir, he was awarded the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service. During his tenure on the Kashmir Frontier, he oversaw border security operations along the Line of Control, including the neutralisation of infiltration attempts, and emphasised the growing role of technology, drone warfare, AI-based surveillance, and modernisation in BSF operations.
The promotion places Shri Yadav among the senior leadership of the BSF, India’s primary border-guarding force responsible for securing the international borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh. The appointment forms part of a set of recent senior-level postings and tenure extensions approved by the Government of India for officers in the Central Armed Police Forces.
