New Delhi, November 6, 2026: Delhi Police Head Constable Chanchal, posted at Jaitpur Police Station in the South-East district, has traced and reunited 119 missing children with their families between November 2025 and October 2026. Of these, 41 were below the age of 14, including a child as young as about three years, while 78 were in the 14–18 age group. She also traced 16 other missing persons during the same period, taking the total to 135.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Utkarsh stated that the work spanned nearly seven to eight states, including Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam, Haryana and Rajasthan. Under the Delhi Police Standing Order 2024, personnel who trace at least 80 missing children in a year, including 40 below the age of 14, become eligible for an out-of-turn promotion. Chanchal has met both thresholds.
Speaking to ANI, Chanchal said she has been posted at Jaitpur for about one-and-a-half years. On joining, she observed the distress of parents searching for missing children. “Being a mother myself, I could understand their emotions. I have an eight-year-old daughter, and I felt deeply connected to their suffering.
This inspired me to take up the responsibility of tracing missing children and reuniting them with their families,” she said. She credited the support of her Station House Officer, senior officers and the DCP, particularly for technical assistance and information that enabled the recoveries.
Police officials noted that the work involved developing intelligence, using technical tools, planning investigations, persistent follow-ups and coordination with child care homes, NGOs and Child Welfare Committees across Delhi-NCR and other states.
Tracing children below 14 is especially significant, as they are among the most vulnerable to exploitation and trafficking. South-East district police described the achievement as an example of humanitarian policing and a matter of pride for the district.
The recoveries were reported between November 2025 and October 2026. Senior officers have acknowledged Chanchal’s investigative skills, meticulous planning and coordination across agencies, which facilitated the safe reunion of the children and other missing persons with their families.
