New Delhi, November 6, 2026: Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Shri G. P. Singh, IPS, felicitated world champion para-archer Constable/GD Toman Kumar and his coach Head Constable/GD Pankaj Singh at CRPF Headquarters, recognising their outstanding achievements in international para-archery and their contribution to bringing glory to the nation.
Toman Kumar’s remarkable journey from serving in the elite Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) to becoming a world champion is a story of extraordinary courage, determination and resilience.
The CRPF constable suffered a life-changing injury during an anti-Maoist operation in 2022 when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast left him with a serious disability. Despite the setback, he refused to let the injury define his future and went on to establish himself as one of India’s leading para-archers.
His determination and rigorous training helped him achieve a historic milestone at the World Archery Para Championships 2025 in Gwangju, South Korea, where he won the gold medal in the men’s individual compound event, becoming India’s first male individual world champion in para-archery.
Continuing his impressive international performance, Toman Kumar partnered with renowned para-archer Sheetal Devi to secure the gold medal in the Compound Mixed Team event at the Asian Para Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The achievement further strengthened India’s reputation in international para-archery.
Behind Toman Kumar’s success has been the dedicated guidance of his coach, HC/GD Pankaj Singh, who played an important role in his transformation from a combat-injured commando to an internationally accomplished athlete.

Through disciplined training, technical guidance and continuous encouragement, Pankaj Singh helped Toman Kumar overcome significant physical and psychological challenges and develop the skills required to compete at the highest level of international archery.
The felicitation ceremony at CRPF Headquarters acknowledged not only Toman Kumar’s remarkable sporting accomplishments but also the vital contribution of his coach in developing a world-class athlete.

Toman Kumar’s achievements have brought immense pride to the CRPF, particularly its elite CoBRA force, which specialises in jungle warfare and counter-insurgency operations.
From surviving an IED blast during operational duty to standing atop the world championship podium, his journey exemplifies the determination, discipline and indomitable spirit of India’s security personnel.
The recognition by CRPF Director General G. P. Singh highlights the force’s appreciation for personnel who continue to serve and bring honour to the country through exceptional achievements beyond their operational responsibilities.
Toman Kumar’s inspiring transformation from a CoBRA commando to a world champion stands as a powerful example of resilience, courage and the unwavering spirit of a soldier.
