psychology test SSB
I was told this by an officer to whom I owe my recommendation. Before going fr SSB 3 times and getting conference out all the three times, I started thinking there is something seriously wrong with my psychology. I kind of developed a stigma about psychology. I was not sure what would I do in my 4th attempt, but once Sir explained me the concept of psychology in his way, I overcame my fear and got recommend too.

Next words are as explained to me by the Gentleman-

Psychology is a test of our mental potential to become and officer. What psychologists does is to find the rare symptoms that we may have, in fact I must say the rarest of rare symptoms  For example a certain candidate has a habit of stealing, he may be very good otherwise but that is what he does knowingly or unknowingly because it is habit which he himself can’t overcome.  A certain candidate has an habit of lying, come what may he tends to tell lies. A certain candidate is so self centric that he will try to get what he wants even at the cost of others. And so on goes the list of some uncorrectable disorders. This is what is the job of psychologists- to find such weeds and throw them out.

Now let me tell you none of us, I mean none of us, not even a single one of us belong to this category because like I said it is for a rarest of rear candidate. We all who have been bought up by our parent irrespective of which class we all belong to, if u r eligible enough to appear fr the SSB that means your parent have done their part, they have given u a good education weather English, Hindi or any other medium, weather govt or private school, they have done what their part was depending on their financial capacity. Along with Education values are the other thing which they have given us. We all who are at least a graduate, have common sense and have had family values possess a good psychology.

We all possess a good psychology which is potential enough to help us become an officer. None of us have these disorders in us because we have been bought up very well by our parent. So believe that your psychology is good.

Now your next doubt will be then why are we not recommended, the answer is that we are not recommended because we have not done well in Interview or in GTO. The job of psychologists is simple: He neither passes nor fails anybody. After going through our TAT, WAT, SRT, SDT, he gets an IDEA about us and moreover he comes to know if we at all possess those rarest  of rear disorders. If at all he finds any case like this (which is not the case with us) then he will straight away give him marks below 50.This candidate stands no chance of passing. One need 90 marks to pass. Now comes the next category- our category, what the psychologist does is he puts us on an border line or average score that is around 75-80. Then he waits till the conference, in conference the psych and GTO has 75 marks each where as the IO has 150 marks alone for the conference. So the psychologist waits for the GTO and IO to give their opinion, if they have passed us then the psych will award us grace marks from his 75 and pass us otherwise he will stay where he was and thus we find that many of us don’t get recommend, so it is not that u have failed in psychology but because in GTO or Interview.

Now the simple answer towards putting up a good psychology is to write and present your Natural self. Be very free of external ideas, borrowed or coached. We all are fools that we don’t listen to the simplest rule of passing the psych test. The Psych himself tells in the instructions as to what is the trick to passing these tests. He tells us- gentleman u are required to write the first impression that comes to your mind. So here is the key- THE FIRST IMPRESSION and we all fail to do that. Coaching classes and people come up with all sorts of rules, for e.g. in WAT they will tell don’t use should, must, don’t write proverbs etc. like this sentence. So somewhere we fail to present our original self. So the best method is to write whatever comes to your mind. Be natural. All stories can’t be good. If you go throw my stories you will find that a few stories are not so very good, they don’t have a very strong theme but may be because I was organized them well and my other good stories have shown the psychologist what he want to see. So give your first impression, stay natural and pass. This is what additional advantage the freshers have in SSB, their psych is uninfluenced.

Like in Cricket the benefit of doubt goes to the Batsman, likewise the benefit if doubt doesn’t go with us. SSB gets to keep the benefit of doubt. So it is very important to present ourselves clearly, if we are not clear then a doubt is created. Psychologist never talks to us so he will not be able to ask you or clarify his doubts, so he keeps the doubt with himself by not recommending. So a humble request BE VERY VERY NATURAL.

Many a times when a certain candidate gets recommended from our batch we say: How could this idiot get recommend? And we punch all our agonies to the poor chap. We may have found that he was not very much involved in the group and always opposed the group or nobody liked him in the group and that stuff, the thing is he was self-cautious but not selfish. And everybody has differences, difference of opinion is bound to happen. We say how he cleared his psych???? The fact is we all cleared psych but this chap he performed well in his GTO and IO and that is why he was recommended.

SO WE ALL HAVE GOOD PSYCHOLOGY. WE ALL ARE PASSED. So the game depends on GTO and interview.

Good Luck, Jai Hind
