Saikhom Mirabai Chanuย (born 8 August 1994) is an Indianย weightlifter.ย She won Silver medal at theย 2020 Tokyo Olympicsย inย Womenโs 49 kg, bringing India its first medal in the event. A regular presence in international events since 2014 in the 48 kg category, Chanu has won theย World Championshipsย and multiple medals at theย Commonwealth Games. She was awarded theย Padma Shriย by theย Government of Indiaย for her contributions to the sport. She was awardedย Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratnaย award by theย Government of Indiaย in 2018.
Chanu had won the silver medal in theย womenโs 48 kgย weight class at theย 2014 Commonwealth Games,ย Glasgow; she went on to break the games record en route to the gold medal at theย 2018 edition of the eventย held inย Gold Coast. Her biggest achievement came in 2017, when she won the gold medal atย World Weightlifting Championshipsย held inย Anaheim, United States.
