The 13th edition of the joint military exercise MAITREE between the Indian Army and the Royal Thailand Army kicked off with an opening ceremony at Fort Vachiraprakan in Tak Province, Thailand. This annual exercise is aimed at enhancing interoperability between the two armies, specifically focusing on joint counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations in jungle and urban environments.

The ceremony was attended by notable military officials, including Lt Gen Kittipong Jamsuwan, 3rd Corps Commander of the Thailand Army, and Group Captain Brijesh Paul, Defence Attache from the Indian Air Force. Both emphasized the importance of the exercise in strengthening the military ties between India and Thailand, highlighting the strategic significance of such collaborations in maintaining regional peace and stability.

Exercise MAITREE 2024 serves as a platform for both armies to share best practices and develop skills that are crucial for the successful execution of joint military operations. By working closely in simulated environments, Indian and Thai forces aim to build a cohesive strategy that could be implemented in real-world scenarios, thereby enhancing the operational readiness and capabilities of both nationsโ€™ armed forces.
