Roshel Unveils Senator Medical Evacuation Ambulance Variant of MRAP Vehicle

Canadian mobility developer Roshel has introduced an ambulance variant of its Senator 4×4 Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle, named the Senator Medical Evacuation. This new model is built on the standard Ford F-550 chassis of its base model, featuring an additional rear door to enhance operational efficiency for medical teams in the field.

The interior of the Senator Medical Evacuation is tailored to support tactical health experts, allowing the vehicle to accommodate four patients lying down. The launch of this medical variant follows Roshel’s earlier announcement in September regarding its Captain armored personnel carrier, which is based on the Toyota Land Cruiser 70.

Roshel’s CEO, Roman Shimonov, commented on the developments, stating, “Wrapping up 2024, Roshel Smart Armored Vehicles has two new models—the Senator Medical Evacuation and the Captain—now in full production.” He added that there are hundreds of units already contracted, with delivery operations in progress and set to continue through the end of the year. Shimonov emphasized the company’s commitment to addressing the diverse needs of clients across different regions with scalable, customized solutions.

The Senator MRAP is renowned for its robust design, featuring NATO-compliant armor capable of withstanding rifle bullets, 155-millimeter artillery, multi-directional mines, and explosive charges. One of the vehicle’s standout features is its V-shaped under-chassis structure, which enhances its MRAP capabilities by redirecting shock waves and shrapnel away from the vehicle during ground-based explosions. Under the hood, the Senator is powered by a 330-horsepower, 6.7-liter engine coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

In a notable international development, Ukraine’s defense ministry has approved the operational use of Roshel’s Senator platform by its armed forces. This decision was facilitated by the Canadian government’s support for Ukraine’s military in 2023, which included the shipment of up to 200 armored vehicles to Kyiv in response to ongoing tensions due to Russia’s invasion.
