Drones Getting Intercepted

Ukraine reported facing one of the heaviest aerial onslaughts of the year as Russia unleashed 614 air attack munitions, including 574 drones and 40 missiles, in a coordinated overnight strike. The Ukrainian Air Force said its defenses intercepted or neutralized the vast majority—546 drones and 31 missiles—but impacts were still recorded across 11 regions.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha described the assault as a “massive combined air strike” targeting both civilian and energy infrastructure, condemning Moscow for escalating instead of pursuing peace.

Strike on U.S.-Owned Factory

One of the most significant attacks hit a Flextronics electronics plant in Mukachevo, near Ukraine’s borders with Hungary and Slovakia. The factory, which produces consumer appliances such as coffee machines, suffered serious damage and casualties, with police confirming at least 15 people injured.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the strike showed Russia’s intent:

“It was an ordinary civilian enterprise, an American investment. And this is also a target for the Russians.”

Zelenskyy urged stronger global sanctions, warning: “It seems like there is no effort from the world to stop this war. Pressure is needed—strong sanctions, strong tariffs.”

Civilian Casualties and NATO Response

In Lviv, just 40 miles from Poland, at least one person was killed and three others injured after strikes in residential areas, Mayor Andriy Sadovyi confirmed.

The scale of the attack triggered NATO air responses, with Polish and Swedish fighter jets scrambled to monitor Russian long-range aviation activity, including the use of hypersonic missiles. Poland’s Operational Command reported a “reduction in the level of threat” a few hours later.

Russia’s Counterclaims

Moscow’s Defense Ministry said its forces destroyed at least 71 Ukrainian drones during the same period. In Russia’s Voronezh region, authorities reported a drone strike damaged an energy facility and disrupted rail services. Separately, in Rostov, a fire broke out at an industrial site after an unmanned aerial attack, though no casualties were reported.

Russia’s Rosenergoatom also confirmed that one unit of the Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant was temporarily disconnected from the grid, though officials insisted there was no broader risk.

Largest Strike Since July

Ukraine’s Air Force said this was the largest single attack since July 12, and only the fourth time since the war began that Russian drone launches exceeded 500 in a single night. Analysts warn the barrage marks a departure from recent weeks, when Russian forces had scaled down the intensity of nightly bombardments.

The strikes also follow a series of earlier Russian attacks on American businesses in Ukraine, including a hit on Boeing offices in Kyiv earlier this year, further straining U.S.-Russia tensions.
