Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, the Chief of the Naval Staff, launched the Tri-Service National Cancer Registry for the Indian Armed Forces, marking a significant advancement in military healthcare. This initiative, inaugurated electronically by Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), aims to usher in an era of enhanced quality data collection and analysis concerning cancer trends within the military community.
The registry will serve as a critical tool for monitoring cancer incidence, identifying high-risk populations, and developing preventive strategies, ultimately guiding treatment and research to improve patient care outcomes for Armed Forces personnel, their dependents, and veterans.
This pioneering project is a collaborative effort with the Indian Council of Medical Research’s National Centre for Disease Informatics and Research (ICMR-NCDIR), ensuring a robust framework for the registry’s operation across seven identified Armed Forces Hospitals. In his address, Admiral Tripathi lauded the initiative, expressing optimism for a healthier future for all Armed Forces personnel involved.
The event also featured a discussion by Dr. Prashant Mathur, Director of ICMR-NCDIR, who played a key role in establishing this specialized database. The inauguration was graced by high-ranking officials including the DGMS of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, Commandants of AFMC Pune, Army Hospital (R&R), and other key figures from the tri-service hospitals.
This milestone in military healthcare underscores the commitment of the Indian Armed Forces to the welfare of its personnel and their families, enhancing the standard of care through strategic data-driven approaches.
