Brigadier KK Ashta and Team Successfully Carried out an Organ Retrieval Procedure from a Brain-dead Female Patient

In a landmark achievement for the Vajra Corps and Zonal Military Hospitals in the Western and Southwestern Theatre, Military Hospital Jalandhar, led by Brigadier KK Ashta, along with a dedicated team from Army Hospital (R&R), successfully carried out an organ retrieval procedure from a brain-dead female patient.

The patient, a mother of a serving soldier, had suffered a massive brain stroke. This marks the first time such an organ retrieval has taken place within these regions of the Indian Army.

To ensure the timely and efficient transportation of the organs, a Green Corridor was established by the civil and police administration of Jalandhar district. The swift coordination enabled the organs to be transported quickly to Army Hospital (R&R), where they will be transplanted into serving soldiers and their dependents, enhancing the well-being of the armed forces community.
