The Punjab Regiment, one of the oldest infantry regiments in the Indian Army, traces its origins to 1705, with its early battalions raised during the Carnatic hostilities in South India between 1761 and 1776. Formed from the 2nd Punjab Regiment of the British Indian Army in 1947, it has since participated in numerous battles and wars, earning 22 Battle Honours, one Theatre Honour (Punjab), and several gallantry awards. The regiment’s 15 Punjab (formerly First Patiala) battalion celebrated 300 years of service in 2005, highlighting its deep-rooted legacy.

The baton exchange ceremony symbolizes not only the transfer of ceremonial leadership but also the Punjab Regiment’s commitment to its traditions, values, and operational readiness. The event underscored the regiment’s motto of being “Strong and Capable,” as it continues to honor its veterans and serving soldiers while looking ahead to future challenges.

The Punjab Regiment remains a cornerstone of the Indian Army, and this leadership transition reaffirms its role as a symbol of courage, honor, and unity in the nation’s defense forces.
