In a proud moment for the Indian Armed Forces, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi and Mrs. Sunita Dwivedi, President of the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA), honored recipients of the Distinguished Service Awards at the Defence Investiture Ceremony 2025 (Phase-2) held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on June 4. The event was graced by the Hon’ble President of India, who presented the awards to personnel for their outstanding contributions to the nation.
The ceremony celebrated the courage, dedication, and professionalism of Indian Army soldiers, reinforcing the Armed Forces’ long-standing tradition of honoring exemplary service. General Dwivedi personally felicitated the awardees and interacted with their families, acknowledging the vital role they play in supporting India’s military strength.

General Upendra Dwivedi, who took charge as the 30th Chief of Army Staff on June 30, 2024, has been instrumental in modernizing the Indian Army. Under his leadership, the Army is rapidly advancing its capabilities through indigenous defence technologies, aligned with the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. His vision emphasizes operational excellence and strategic self-reliance.
Mrs. Sunita Dwivedi, who assumed office as AWWA President in July 2024, reaffirmed AWWA’s enduring mission to ensure the welfare of soldiers’ families. As the support pillar of India’s Army community, AWWA has worked tirelessly for decades to empower war widows, promote education, and provide vocational training to Army families.
