Army Rescues Pilgrims

The Indian Army launched a swift and coordinated rescue operation after a landslide near Z Morh on the evening of July 16 disrupted the Amarnath Yatra, leaving thousands of pilgrims stranded between Rayalpathri and Brarimarg in Jammu and Kashmir.

Despite inclement weather and difficult terrain, Army personnel deployed at Brarimarg acted immediately, providing emergency shelter and relief to around 500 Yatris in tents. Tea and clean drinking water were distributed to those affected, while nearly 3,000 more pilgrims were relocated to nearby langars where they received food and protection from the weather.

In one notable instance, Army Quick Reaction Teams manually evacuated a seriously ill pilgrim trapped in a precarious location at Rayalpathri using a stretcher. The individual was safely moved to a secure location and given urgent medical care.

Army officials, including the Camp Director and Company Commander, are currently monitoring the area. Though light rain continues, the situation has been brought under control, and the Army remains on high alert to respond to any further emergencies.

This rescue effort underscores the Indian Armyโ€™s ongoing humanitarian commitment during the 2025 Amarnath Yatra, especially in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of pilgrims navigating challenging mountain routes.
