In a fitting tribute to one of India’s greatest naval leaders, Lt Gen Dinesh Singh Rana, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, Ph.D, Commander-in-Chief Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN), inaugurated ‘Nanda Hall’, a newly established facility dedicated to the legendary Admiral SM Nanda, the visionary behind the daring naval operations on Karachi during the 1971 Indo-Pak War.
Admiral Nanda, fondly remembered as the “Father of the Indian Navy’s modern offensive doctrine,” masterminded Operation Trident and Operation Python, the bold attacks that crippled Pakistan’s naval capabilities and turned the tide of the war in India’s favour. The success of these operations remains one of the most celebrated chapters in Indian naval history.
Nanda Hall stands as a living tribute to his strategic brilliance and inspiring leadership, which continue to guide and motivate generations of naval officers. The facility not only honours his legacy but also serves as an educational and motivational space for young sailors and officers.
The hall showcases the Indian Navy’s glorious heritage, featuring detailed ship and aircraft models that narrate the service’s remarkable journey from its decisive victories in the past to its modern capabilities in safeguarding India’s vast maritime interests.
It reflects the Navy’s evolution as a cutting-edge maritime force and reinforces its commitment to defending the nation’s maritime frontiers.
