The Archer-NG, designed and developed by DRDO in collaboration with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), is a next-generation UAV engineered to deliver advanced intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR), and precision strike capabilities. The maiden flight, following rigorous ground evaluations and high-speed taxi trials, validates the platform’s structural integrity, engine performance, and flight control systems.

Built with a single-engine twin-boom configuration, the Archer-NG weighs around 1,800 kg and carries a payload of up to 400 kg. It boasts an endurance of 24–29 hours and a service ceiling of 30,000 feet, enabling persistent surveillance and long-duration missions critical for the Indian Armed Forces.

Equipped with electro-optical/infrared sensors (EO/IR), synthetic aperture radar (SAR), and electronic warfare (EW) systems, the UAV can also be armed with laser-guided bombs, anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs), and Smart Anti-Airfield Weapons (SAAW). With four external hardpoints, it is designed for rapid integration of new payloads and future weapon systems, including the Astra Mk1 BVRAAM.

Powering the UAV is an indigenously developed 177-horsepower turbocharged engine, enhancing India’s self-reliance in propulsion systems and supply chain security. Its modular avionics architecture, coupled with an autonomous take-off and landing system, aligns with DRDO’s vision for network-centric operations and interoperability with manned platforms.

The Archer-NG’s maiden flight signifies a leap forward in India’s quest for strategic autonomy in unmanned warfare, following the legacy of previous DRDO UAV programs such as TAPAS. Once weaponised, the Archer-NG is expected to serve as a multi-role combat and surveillance asset across the Indian Air Force, Navy, and Army, providing unmatched endurance and strike capabilities in the MALE category.
