The Influential Moves By China
The Influential Moves By China

China has been in a status of strong economic and defense condition from past few months. Looking at the high pace of manufacturing of weapons and war machines, China has been estimated to take over other developed nations in defense strength in upcoming decades. But recent actions of China to lure other small nations have been termed as a signal for India.

Recently Bangladesh got its first set of two submarine, which were delivered on 14th November. As per the sources, Bangladesh paid $ 203 million for it. The deal was a sign of the rising bonds between both the nations and growing economic stability of Bangladesh. Earlier in 2013, the Bangladeshi government has signed deals with Russia for purchasing fighter jets, helicopters and anti-tank missiles. The deal for submarines was taken into consideration to improve its maritime security and getting leveled with other nations in defense and security field. China has also shown its deep interest in Nepal, last year, by signing a deal for fuel export to Nepal. Pakistan has also got maximum support from China in defense (Yuan class submarines) and economic (Gwadar port) field.

Apart from this, Donald Trump’s is being alleged to show his interest in investing in the ambitious project of One Belt One Road, an ambitious project of China. The chief of AIIB (Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank) has signaled the allegation of it. The head of AIIB told media that Obama was not right for it and Donald will be a right person for investment. The project OBOR is the project to revive the ancient silk route and is seen as the new step to enhance and raise the economic ties between Asian nations.

Coming to the defense enhancement of the China, China has been assumed to have completed the manufacturing of its aircraft carrier “Lioning” and now it is ready for combat. It was purchased from Ukraine as just a hull and was commissioned in 2013. China has not come up with any specific use of it that could be deploying it on the disputed territory of South China Sea or using it for training purpose for its officers and soldiers. As per the sources, China is reported to be manufacturing a completely indigenous aircraft carrier and the progress is in full swing. The performance of the aircraft carrier was reported to be lagging behind the carriers of the U.S. carriers, but some of its features, like maintenance, have been appreciated by the U.S. authorities.

Conclusion – The economic stability and escalated defense involvement has made China lead the Asian nations. The south Asian nations have been either influenced by India or by China. China has been seen attracting small Asian nations in order to retain its power in the Indian Ocean region. Moreover, China has made its bold impact over other nations by giving proposals of weapons and warheads to them, prominently to Pakistan and now to Bangladesh. India is also preparing itself to bring out the best of it, to come out with a strong force by recovering the squadron dearth in the Indian air force and other such steps. India has made certain strong moves to counter China and will make its way to keep its hold over IOR.

M777 Light Howitzer Gun Deal between India and U.S.
M777 Light Howitzer Gun Deal between India and U.S.

The deal of purchasing 145 guns has been accelerated by both India and U.S. The deal is seen as a bold step of India to enhance the defense forces of India as it is the first deal of purchasing guns after Bofors scandal in 1980s. Cabinet committee on security has approved the deal of Ultra-Light Howitzer guns that will cost about Rs 5,000 Crore to India. The delays in the deal have led to the rise in the cost of the deal by about $ 100 million. The sources also said that the two sides have discussed the views over predator drone along the sides of the M777 guns. The actual proposal of guns was about 10 years back. Now let’s have a brief account of the matter.

About M77 Guns

The gun is 155mm 39 Caliber gun. India has ordered 145 such guns. The deal was to acquire M-777A2, which is an updated version of M-777A1. As per the sources, the guns will replace the Bofors guns in future. The gun is efficient enough to fire 5 rounds per minute, which makes it a good choice. The digital fire control system of the gun helps it to fire at the accurate targets at long range. Other elite features of the gun are Laser Inertial Artillery Pointing Systems (LINAPS), Low-Rate Initial Production LIRP and Towed Artillery Digitization (TAD), which gives it more power to strike.

Why India chose them?

The guns are best suited for Indian terrains. The guns can give their best in the high mountainous terrains, which is the crucial part of the Indian border. The guns are also reported to be easily transported by the helicopters and can be towed on the roads too. The gun is known for its capability and mobility and also it’s proved performance in various ranges of temperatures. The main aim of purchasing the guns was to arm the mountain crops of India that was raised in 2013.

What Ahead?

The producer of the guns, BAE, is expected to be planning to get into a deal with Mahindra Defence for manufacturing the same guns. But the joint production of the guns is not so easy due to some technical issues like titanium technology and barrel manufacturing, which are chief concerns for the production of the guns.

Other deals with U.S.

U.S. has been a crucial defense exporter for India in the past. India has a deal for purchasing Chinook and Apache helicopters from U.S. Apart from this, purchasing U.S. Drone Predator is also a fresh issue. Earlier, India has signed a deal with U.S. for P-8 Poseidon. LEOMA is also a great achievement for India to bolster the U.S. India defense ties. C-17 Globemaster and C-130J Hercules planes were also bought by India from U.S. that increased the transport capabilities of Indian air force.

M777 Light Howitzer Gun Deal between India and U.S.

Conclusion – The Indian Armed Forces have brought the defense mechanics to a new era, where S-400, Brahmos, Barak-8 and other new generation weapons. The induction of M777 guns will improve the security of India and will be a bead in the India U.S. relations. India is currently engaged in finalizing Rafale deal with France to recover the lacking squadron in India Air Force and the government has taken a good step by point toward M777 to raise the defense capabilities of India. As per the scenario, Indian government seems to be parallel toward emphasizing on indigenous manufacturing as well as foreign procurement which is the need of the hour.

India Carries Out Test Flight Of Its Indigenous MALE UAV, Rustom 2

0
Rustom 2

India’s indigenously developed long-endurance combat-capable drone, Rustom 2 (TAPAS 201) successfully completed its maiden flight. It is a medium-altitude, long endurance unmanned aerial vehicle (MALE UAV). The test was carried out at the Chitradurga flight test range in Karnataka, India.

TAPAS 201 accomplished the main objectives of proving the flying platform, such as take-off, bank, level flight and landing among others.

Here are the key points of this test:

Rustom 2

  1. The first prototype of the homemade MALE UAV, known as TAPAS 201, was designed and developed by Aeronautical Development Establishment of DRDO.
  2. Many critical systems such as airframe, landing gear, flight control and avionics sub-systems are being developed in India with the collaboration of private industries.
  3. The latest flight test was restricted to a range of less than 100 kilometers, though the UAV’s range is slated to achieve 250 kilometers.
  4. Rustom-II weighs 1.8 tons and can carry a payload up to 350 kilograms. Its wingspan is about 21 meters and it has an endurance of more than 24 hours.
  5. The most recent instance of drone usage by India had been during the army’s surgical strikes on terror launch pads across the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir, where the drones have monitored and filmed the proceedings.
  6. Equipped with contemporary technology, it will need a runway to take off and land unlike traditional UAVs, making it more reliable. It will have an, enhanced aerodynamic configuration, digital flight control and navigation system.
  7. Rustom-II is a tri-service requirement and it will need at least a dozen successful flight trials for validating the design parameters, before going for user validation trials before inducting into the armed forces.
  8. Once fully operational, Rustom-II will begin to replace the Israeli Heron UAVs used by the Indian Air force and Navy.

From 2017, Navy Selection To Be Through JEE Marks For B Tech Entry

0
indian-navy-jee

Candidates aspiring to join Indian Navy through 10+2 B Tech Cadet Entry Scheme will now be shortlisted to join the force based on JEE Main scores instead of Class XII marks. Now, the marks obtained in the MPC in your 12th board exams will be invalid for this scheme and JEE Marks For B Tech Entry scheme will be considered for shortlisting the applicants.

According to reports, the CBSE has agreed to share JEE Main ranks with the naval academy as a better benchmark for selection of candidates. With the government approving the move, the Navy aspirants will have to appear for JEE (Main) in 2017 to be eligible for the Jan 2018 course at INA.

JEE Marks For B Tech Entry

With this, the Navy now has 3 entry schemes producing officers: 78 from NDA, 110 from CDSE and now, 120 from 10+2 B Tech Cadet Entry Scheme.

The Navy wants all its new officers to have B Tech degrees apart from the traditional military and leadership skills when they graduate from the Indian Naval Academy in Kerala to make sure the new officers have the technical capabilities of handling and managing its hi-tech overhaul and armament.

The aspiring candidates for the 10+2 B Tech cadet entry scheme will now have to take the JEE (Main) in 2017 to be eligible for entry to the January 2018 course at the Indian Naval Academy. The registrations for the were being accepted in June 2016.

Shortlisting of candidates for SSB will be based on ‘Class XII (PCM) percentage’ or ‘JEE (Main)’ rank. While applying, the candidates can choose from either of the options.

For shortlisting, the Navy will choose an equal number of applicants from both the lists based on the set cut-off and will adjust the list if the response from either of the options is less, i.e. candidates from the other list will be considered for shortlisting.

Any candidate, who applies separately through both the options, will be disqualified from examination.

So, for those of you who thinks marks doesn’t matter, think upon it again.

IAF Fighter Jets To Be Part Of Agra-Lucknow Expressway Inauguration

0
Agra-Lucknow Expressway Inauguration

If you are living in the vicinity of Agra-Lucknow expressway and are a die-hard Air Force fan, get ready for the biggest surprise near you. In a historical event, 8-11 Indian Air Force fighter jets will touch down on Agra-Lucknow expressway on its grand opening on November 21, which also happens to be Mulayam Singh Yadav’s 78th birthday.

The squadron of fighter jets will land and take off from the newly constructed expressway.

The 302-km expressway is a dream project of UP CM Akhilesh Yadav. It took 22 months with a cost of ₹13,200 crore to complete the project. It will be open to the public by December.

Agra-Lucknow Expressway Inauguration

Necessary safety requirements such as bird clearance, safety services, rescue vehicles and temporary air traffic control are being set up to conduct safe landings of the fighter jets.

The speciality of this expressway is that a dedicated 2 km stretch has been built for war-like emergencies on the expressway, though authorities have also ensured that eco-system on the stretch is not disturbed.

This is a follow-up of last year’s trial when an IAF Mirage 2000 had landed successfully on the Yamuna Expressway.

The exercise is aimed at testing the quality of build of the expressway, and would also go a long way in aiding the Defence Ministry’s plan to use highways and expressways as possible landing and take-off strips.

Although it is yet unclear which fighter jets of the IAF will participate in the exercise, the 11 Indian Air Force (IAF) jets will land and take-off from the expressway to test the quality of build. These jet fighters will follow a release of tri-coloured smoke performing aerobatics in the sky.

The Agra-Lucknow expressway will pass through Unnao, Kannauj, Etawah, Mainpuri and Firozabad. It will also shrink the travel time between Agra and Lucknow to just four hours.

At present, countries such as Germany, Poland, Sweden, South Korea, Taiwan, Finland, Switzerland, Poland, Singapore, Czechoslovakia and Pakistan have dedicated stretches on their expressways and highways for aeroplanes to land and take off in the case of an emergency.

Navy Inducts 4 New Indigenous Sonars For Its Ships and Submarines

0
4 new indigenous sonars

To bolster Navy’s underwater surveillance capability, the Indian Navy inducted 4 new indigenous sonars. These are namely Abhay, Humsa, NACS and AIDSS.

  1. Abhay: Abhay is a compact hull mounted sonar for shallow water crafts. The technology that has been used in Abhay is an advanced active-cum-passive integrated sonar system which has been designed and developed for the smaller platforms such as shallow water crafts and coastal surveillance or patrol vessels. Abhay is capable of detecting, localising, classifying, and tracking sub-surface and surface targets in both its active and passive modes of operation. The prototype of this compact sonar has successfully completed all user evaluation trials to demonstrate the features as per the Naval Staff Qualification Requirements.4 new indigenous sonars
  1. Humsa UG: Humsa UG is an upgrade for the Humsa sonar system. It is designed for upgrading the existing Humsa sonar system and is built to prevail its command over high seas. This system is proposed to be installed on seven ships of three different classes.
  1. NACS: NACS is an acronym for near-field Acoustic Characterisation System. NACS determines the in-situ performance of the sonar system used to find the frequency-dependent 3-D transmission and reception characteristics of the sonar. It is also used to measure the magnitude and phase characteristics of the sonar transmission and reception electronics and transducers.
  1. AIDSS: AIDSS stand for Advanced Indigenous Distress sonar system for submarines. It is a distress sonar or an Emergency Sound Signalling Device which is used to indicate that a submarine is in distress to enable quick rescue and salvage. It is a life-saving alarm system designed to transmit sonar signals of a pre-designated frequency and pulse shape in an emergency situation from a submarine for long period, so as to attract the attention of passive sonars of ships or submarines in the vicinity and all types of standard rescue vessels in operation.

The system has been developed and designed by Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL), a DRDO laboratory based in Kochi, Kerala.

The four systems will make the Indian navy self-reliant in the critical area of surveillance technology.

Indian Air Force Pilot Facing Court Martial Alleges Torture By Superior

0

The officer has complained that he is facing severe torture in detention and fears for his life in custody. The high-flying career of a transport pilot of the Indian Air Force, who is facing a General Court Martial at a missile base in Mumbai on charges ranging from assaulting his superior officer to ones like not eating food and stealing remote controls at the Officers’ mess, says that his life has been put in jeopardy all because of an ego clash with his superiors after an injury.

19 CHARGES LEVELED
A total of 19 charges have been leveled against Flight Lieutenant Maan Pal Singh Godara. He has been kept under detention by the Air Force at a remote air base in Thane district of Maharashtra.

However, the officer has complained that he is facing severe torture in detention and fears for his life in custody.

He has now written to Air Force chief Arup Raha pleading his case. The Indian Air Force did not respond to a detailed query from Mail Today despite taking four days to give its version on the alleged plight of the officer.iaf

TIMELINE OF EVENTS

The young officer, who is married to naval officer Deepika Chowdhary, was allowed to attend to his pregnant wife just before his delivery after the intervention of the Mumbai High Court last year. Deepika had led the Naval contingent at the Republic Day parade two years ago

Godara, who had won gold medal for the IAF in national shooting championship, has claimed in his plea to the IAF chief that he has been facing harassment and is being victimized by his superiors since 2013 after he suffered a grievous knee injury.

His father Bhanu Pratap Godara, a retired teacher from the Rajasthan Education Board, said his son’s plight started after his son was found medically unfit to fly Antonov-32 transport aircraft due to an injury suffered in service and was posted to Bhuj where there were no medical facilities to treat his knee.

After he sought transfer from Bhuj to a place where he could get his knee treated properly, the commanding officer there took the matter to his heart and refused to do so despite recommendation by seniors,” his father said

The officer claimed that after his repeated pleas for a transfer to an air base in Mumbai for treatment, he was posted at a remote location in Thane district, which is 130 kms away from the naval hospital.flight-lieutenant-maan-pal-singh-godara

He said that his career has been destroyed due to the denial of proper treatment by his superiors. Godara was declared permanently unfit to fly a transport aircraft on April 21 this year as he could not recuperate within the two years mandatory period.

The officer, whose grandfather was an Army officer and served as ADC (Aidede-Camp) to first President of India Rajendra Prasad and brother is a decorated naval fighter pilot, was also warned that if his family raised voice against his ill treatment, action would be taken against him, he alleged.

The officer further alleged that after his uncle wrote a letter to the defence minister and the Chief of Air Staff, he was issued a show cause notice on June 7 this year.

CAREERS COMPROMISED

This despite the Defence Ministry clarifying that writing directly to the minister or the ministry is not an offence and cannot be made a basis for taking action against an officer

The officer has now pleaded that both his and his wife’s careers have been compromised after both of them were posted in and near Mumbai and requested for a posting to Delhi.

SOME CHARGES FRIVOLOUS

The IAF has, so far, not responded to the pleas of the young officer, and started his court martial proceedings in closed arrest for over 60 days in Mumbai. Of the 19 charges slapped against him, some are of a ‘frivolous’ nature like stealing data cables and TV remote controls from the officers’ mess.
