Is India Aiming Safer Skies?

0
IAF base

India’s air security seems to be stepping boldly toward a strong defense. These days, Indian defense technologies are seen showing spurt in the inductions and trails of defense weapons and systems. Moreover, foreign acquisition is also on the hike. Following some recent news, it is seen that India is focusing on military preparedness to avert the effect of neighbors, which are expanding their tentacles. Some of the newest achievements of Indian Armed Forces, which are reported are as follows.

Tejas Induction – The domestically built Tejas’s first squadron is inducted into the Indian Air Force. The induction was delayed by more than 2 decades. The project was pined up in 1983 and was planned to be completed by 1994. But some subsequent delays led by certain causes that made IAF to wait for its induction. The aim of building it was to replace the Russian Mig-21. The jet can run at a speed of about 1.2 Mach, carry about 3,500 kgs of payload and can fly unto a height of 15,000 meters.

MRSAM – Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM), a joint venture of India’s DRDO and Israel’s Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) was successfully conducted on 1st July. The missile is capable of neutralizing any aerial threat in a range of 70kms. Sources revealed emphasize of its use in sensitive areas of the nation. It is the land version of LRSAM (Long Range Surface to Air Missile), which is also a joint project of DRDO and IAI.

Supersonic Interceptor Missile Test – India successfully test fired the supersonic interceptor missile from Abdul Kalam island off the coast of Odisha in Bay of Bengal. It involved the launch of single-stage Ashwin Advanced Defense Interceptor missile, which successfully destroyed nuclear capable Dhanush missile at an altitude of 20-40 kms.

Su-30 MKI with Brahmos – In a recent trail, Su-30 MKI of IAF flew with BRAHMOS, which gave the aircraft, the weapon multi-platform capability. The missile has got a range of 290 kms. The test brought closer the future test of firing of the air-to surface variant of this missile. The Top brass of IAF are calling it a deadly combination.

Women Pilots – Soon Indian skies will be guarded by some of the best women pilots of the IAF. The march out parade of 3 women, who are the first to join IAF as Pilot showed the positive move by top authorities. They are the newest power inducted into IAF to guard the skies of Indian skies. The step is a game changer in the field of flying branch of IAF. Many nations have given this role to women and now India is on the verge of joining the group.

Conclusion – India is going through a tough military situation these days after China and Pakistan were found intervening in international affairs of India, which seemed to be the turning point for India. The defensive approach by India is emerging as the first priority for India. With the above tests and induction, Indian skies are safer and future steps will make the scenario more favorable for India.

Indian Air Force is the dream organization of many Armed Forces aspirants. The organization provides a variety of tasks to its men to bring out a better outcome. Well, it sometimes becomes a question in interview, where candidates are asked about the respective responsibilities and services delivered by the branches. This mostly happens in the AFCAT entries. Candidates must know about the tasks handled by the branch for which they have applied, along with an overview of other branches. So, we are here with a short overview of the responsibilities of all three branches of Indian Air Force.

Flying  – Most of the IAF aspirant have craze of joining the IAF as a pilot. Fighter planes with the combat and transportation of ammunition tasks, aircraft which transports men and material, helicopters are in service for casual and emergency transportation, air support and supplies etc.  Navigators, who guides the pilots are also included in this field. They are trained for all kinds of war and peace time missions. Whether it be any local help, air support in case of disasters or observation and action missions in war times.

Technical – As the name specifies, the branch is fully technical. The branch has all kinds of engineering works included in it. Engineering of jets, weapons and equipment’s all is done by them. Aeronautical and electrical engineers are taken into service to handle aircraft and Electronic and Communication tasks. They are responsible for all kinds of technical procedures and managements in the aircraft and respective equipment.women-airforce-iaf

Ground Duty – All other tasks like administration, logistics, meteorological and education are merged in it. The Administration branch has air traffic control and fighter control to manage the easy flight schedules. While Accounts branch deals with all kinds of fund management and acts as an auditor to make a transparency in funds. Logistics branch has to manage the material and equipment and ensure its right usage. Meteorological department handles the satellite imagery and relative information to bring out a correct data for helping the aircrafts. Educational branch is involved in all kinds of educational tasks.

Conclusion – The branches of Indian Air Force are segregated to lower down the complexity and maximize the service output. All branches work together in coordination with full active support to each other, making Air Force an effective organization. ‘The Flying Daggers’ – India’s First Squadron of Indigenous LCA Tejas Inducted

0
The Flying Daggers IAF

The first squadron of indigenous Light Combat Aircraft Tejas dubbed ‘Flying Daggers’ was inducted in the Indian Air Force in Bengaluru. The two LCAs were passed from the makers Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to the IAF.

Tejas has been developed for the IAF and the Navy by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) starting 1985 and produced by the public sector aircraft manufacturer, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, both based in Bengaluru.

Here is more about this development:

  1. IAF’s squadron number 45, ‘Flying Daggers’, has to its credit the shooting down of a Pakistani naval surveillance aircraft in 1999 using MiG-21 Bison, some 300 kilometres northeast of Karachi, killing all 16 people on board.
  2. The first LCA squadron will be based in Bangalore in Karnataka for two years before shifting to Sulur in Tamil Nadu. The Flying Daggers IAF
  3. Initially, it will have 2 fighters followed by six more jets by 2017 to make it fully operational.
  4. The first Tejas squadron will consist of 20 aircraft, with 16 fighters and 4 in reserve.
  5. The second LCA squadron will be raised with improved capabilities, including the critical necessity of missile firing to Beyond Visual Range.
  6. The IAF had ordered 40 LCA in two versions and promised to buy another 80 in the upgraded Mark 1A version. The first 20 are expected by 2018-19.
  7. The improved Tejas-1A will be far more superior than the first two squadrons since these will have mid-air refuelling, modern internal radar warning receiver, and external self-protection jammer pod to enhance survivability and an active electronically scanned array radar.
  8. In the coming years, altogether 120 Tejas jets are to be inducted, replacing MiG-21s, which performs the role of close combat support.
  9. Tejas is far, far better than MiG-21s in terms of safety as its fly-by-wire system is the state-of-the-art in the world.
  10. Remarkably, on May 17, Chief Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha flew the fighter in Bengaluru.
