How to Prepare for SSB Interview without Coaching

3

SSB will always remain the trickiest and most difficult interview you’ll ever face in your life. Certainly, you should not leave any stone unturned to perform well in that. When you are passionate about anything, you just want to do all that you can, try all that is possible to make it happen.

One such thing is coaching, many candidates rush to join coaching thinking that this is the guarantee of their success. This is of course not the case. You must be very sure about any institute before joining them. Secondly, there are candidates who are not able to join any coaching due to some unavoidable reasons, like financial problems, distance or due to the fact that they can’t miss their college or school. Here are some ways in which you can prepare for SSB, without any coaching

  • Introspection:  This is the best step in starting the preparation. You must know who you are. By saying that we mean, what all are your strengths and what all are your weaknesses. If you know yourself then only you can work on to make yourself better.
  • Surroundings: You must be aware about what is happening in your surroundings, and then only you can be considered as a responsible person. You must be aware about the current happenings around the globe. You must know about your family, friends, the jobs, their positive and negative points.
  • Time yourself: You need to time your writing and your responses. There are ample of PPT’s for the psychological tests, you can just start by downloading them and practicing. Take random words and write your reaction on that. Take a random picture and build a story around that. Think about real life situations and give your reactions on them. This is a live way of practicing for the psych tests.
  • Improve your speaking skills: You definitely need to speak many times in the course of interview. If you can be an effective speaker then, half the battle is won. Lecturette is one such exercise which can improve your speaking skills, as well as help you to gain knowledge about various topic. You need to prepare atleast two lectures every day, just pick random topics, read about them in afternoon, then in evening prepare for 3 minutes and speak for three minutes. Stand in front of the mirror, in erect position, do not move too much. You can get a dedicated article on improving your speaking skills, on our website. It is very important to be an effective speaker.
  • Physical fitness: SSB’s demand a long and tiring day for a continuous period. You need to be fit enough to endure that. Plus if you are fit then you can be perform well in the outdoor tasks. Start by jogging or mild exercise.
  • Follow a Blog: If you follow a blog which is dedicated to SSB preparation, you’ll get a platform. This platform will help you to associate with other aspirants, share you ideas, get their ideas and plus get the latest topics and expert opinions.

Uncertainties To Overcome Before Going To SSB – Part 1

SSB has always been a different experience for everyone. I have heard people saying that it’s once a lifetime experience and I definitely believe that too. It’s such an exam where you have to be yourself only, no preparation, no cramming of heavy books, nothing. Just the personality assessment before going and you could be the hero of war with a chest number having a plus (+) sign on the chest. Yes that’s what everyone dreams for. Here let’s try to understand the complexity involved in assessment. It not a normal assessment as other organisations has during the placement season or the off campus drives. These things at SSB are scientifically driven. So each aspirant need to understand the basic concepts that are involved behind doing the things, they need to understand the expectations of the assessors and once this is done then the way to success is easy.

There is certain level of anxiety that is present in the minds of aspirants that needs to be cleared as I receive multiple queries on the same. Just try to follow the following:
  • Psychology is really very important as you cannot even think of moulding the things here and if tried you will be caught immediately. The best way is to self-introspect and then go to SSB, as that will help you to know ourselves much better; the humans have the problem of not knowing themselves and tendency to judge more about others. This life is really short to do that.
  • Spend quality time on yourself introspecting for the OLQ’s present and missing in you. Once this is done you need sufficient time to get what you don’t have and develop the strength for what you have. This recognition and introspection helps in preparing for the PI also as PI is nothing but revisiting the whole life with the help of officer.
  • If you are going to SSB for funs then don’t attach expectations with-it. LUCK BY CHANE does not work at such places. You will be surprised to know that everyone of us have the OLQ’s, only the degree differ. I usually administer many tools to know what a person has and what not during my personal mentorship program for aspirants. Once it is known the aspirant is left for developing and inculcating the things within himself and they really need to work hard it.
  • You are the best manager for your personality and experts in this field can only facilitate your way to improve, and cannot change your personality unless and until you really feel the need of it. So start working and taking care of yourself.
Uncertainties To Overcome Before Going To SSB – Part 1
There is still a lot that needs to be learnt before you reach the final destination. Part 2 of this article will unfold many other secrets and things that can help in improvement. Still If you have any confusion or feel to take individual assessment of personality for olq’s or prepare from your place itself through one to one interaction through my mentoring / counselling program drop me a mail at [email protected] or add me on Fb and drop in a message. So wait for the second part to unfold and you will know the real power of yourself. Until then start working over yourself and make yourself adjustable to the situations as it’s not necessary that best things happen with best people at the best time.

Secrets for Success in PPDT at SSB

How to crack screening test in ssb

SSB is a five day long selection process and where every individual is tested on various parameters and there is search of OLQ’s. Once the officer like qualities are found that individual is recommended at the end of fifth day. SSB seems to be a tough exam because the elimination ratios are very high here. A lot of people are eliminated on the very first day and very few get chance to stay there for the rest of the four days. But believe me those who make it are a changed personality altogether. You are made felt like an officer there and also treated like one. So first day is crucial to all and it comprises of written aptitude test followed by PPDTwhich means picture perception and discussion test.
In this article let’s concentrate on PPDT so that you are ready to clear this round.

It’s a test where you are presented with a hazy picture and you are asked to write the following on a sheet of paper based on your imagination:
  1. How many characters you see in picture and their position needs to be marked in a box in answer sheet.
  2. What was the mood of the character, their sex and age?
  3. You are also asked to identify main character of your story.
How to crack screening test in ssb
This all needs to be done in 1 minute in which you might also asked to give a title to story. Then you get 3 minutes to write the story on it which should include past events, present scene and the future happening. The story should be clear and crisp. The following should be kept in mind:
  • Hero should be of similar age as of you.
  • Hero of story should do something great then only the word hero has a real meaning.
  • There should be a problem in a story and it should be solved also.
  • Story should be natural and acceptable to all. That means it should have actions that could be done by human beings.
After this all are divided in small groups for the group discussion. Now you are asked to narrate story individually for about a minute and when everyone has done the same the GD starts to conclude. Now the impressive thing in this exercise is that since the picture was hazy everyone has different perception of story. Remember the following while doing group discussion:
  • Don’t ever try to make a GD room a fish market. Since everyone tries to get his / her story implemented so it’s necessary that you should go with group and try to conclude.
  • Enter at appropriate point to get group in one direction if there is digression.
  • Don’t allow to form subgroups and if formed ask people to discuss collectively.
  • Give chance to people who have not got one.
  • Try to enter 2-3 times depending on time given with each time speaking for 30-45 seconds. The matter should be good enough to attract attention of all.
Few simple ways and you can clear the screening selection process. Fish market is really a terrible situation and I will deal it separately for how to work over it. Body language is also important and hence I have written a separate article over its importance. Still If you have any confusion or feel to take individual assessment of personality for OLQ’s or prepare from your place itself through one to one interaction through my mentoring / counselling program drop me a mail at [email protected] or add me on Fb and drop in a message. It would be a pleasure to help and resolve queries and clear doubts which are more often myths that are present in the mind and that can severely degrade the performance.

What to do in SELF Description Part of Psychology?

0
SSB Psychology

Though self-description is the last round of Psychology, but it has its own importance. It’s just a simple exercise where the psychologist wants to know your perception about yourself along with your closed ones. It’s very important for a person to realise that you should know yourself clearly. If you are familiar with the grantha RAMAYAN, there was Hanuman who had lot of powers but had low confidence on his capabilities. But once he was made remembered of his capabilities he can do wonders. Jamwant told him of his capabilities after which he crossed the sea and went to Lanka to give message to Sita ji. Having Capabilities is different but recognising them and using them at the right time is what is needed in an officer. This round focuses on that.

Time allotted to write is 15 minutes and you have to write the following:
  • What do you think about yourself?
  • What your parents think of you?
  • What your friends/ colleagues think of you?
  • What you boss/ teacher thinks of you?
  • What limitations you feel in yourself?
The aim of this exercise is to assess the maturity of the participants that whether he knows of himself or not. Also you are the best one who knows about yourself no one else can access you in best way apart from yourself. Hence through these exercises you are made to write who you are and then through other exams you are judged whether you were right or wrong. If interference if found between what you say and what you do, you are recommended. How to prepare well for this exam?
  • Since it’s like you already know what to write, you should prepare beforehand and prepare a paragraph for each category.
  • Keep track of time as it’s important to write something for each category. No category should be left unanswered.
  • Have knowledge of both positives and negatives about you. Because it gives a good impression to the examiner that you have thorough knowledge about yourself.
  • Don’t feel shame in consulting parents and teachers, colleagues, friends to know their opinion about you. Since what they think needs to be mentioned this is the perfect opportunity to know this. They will give some of the details which i am sure to your surprise you might not know.
  • Don’t even try to bluff or tell lies or else you will never be selected.
  • Try to show your true character in this exercise. Or else it would be caught either by the psychologist or the interviewer.
  • Be ready with the wish list of how you goanna remove your negative qualities. Do mention them as no one is perfect and everyone has it.
    SSB Psychology
The real mantra for psychology round is through self-assessment. Once that’s done you are always free birds to express; as you should know what OLQ’s you possess, what are your weakness and then how to relate and bring things in PI, psych in synch with your personal qualities. So get ready to do self-introspection as it can be done through various inventories available. If you feel the need of individual mentorship for assessment of your personality through mentorship / counselling that I have specially designed for working people and students which can be done from your place at your convenience, just drop me a mail at [email protected] or add me on Fb and drop in a message. Details of other parts of psychology round like WAT, TAT, SRT, etc. will be covered separately. So keep watching SSBcrack for more.

The citizens are expected to recall the selfless sacrifice of the martyrs and remember them.

The war of 1971 is one of the biggest war’s India have fought. The forces of India were engaged from both eastern and western front. This war is also known as the Bangladesh Liberation War as the Liberation East Pakistan and its secession into Bangladesh was the major objective of the war. Many lives were lost in the war, including that of several civilians of Bangladesh. Pakistan had to surrender and thus there were huge number of prisoners of war captured by India. India Launched several attacks, including those from Navy and Air Force. The Pakistani forces are said to have suffered several losses in terms of both equipment and men. There were many brave soldiers who laid their lives in the course of the war. Four Indian military personnel’s got the highest gallantry award of India, the Param Vir Chakra. Three of them, Lance Naik Albert Ekka, Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal and Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon , received the award posthumously and the fourth person to receive it was Major Hoshiar Singh.  Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Sekhon remains the first Indian Air Force personnel to have ever received this highest gallantry award.

Let us take a moment out of busy lives to commemorate those heroes, who selflessly laid their lives for us. Of course whatever we do can never match up to what they did for us. Such are the brave hearts who think about the country before self. If you’ll read up about the war or about the war heroes you are sure to get some goose bumps.

Why SSB Interview is India’s Toughest Interview

3
WHY SSB INTERVIEW IN INDIA'S TOUGHEST INTERVIEW

Why SSB Interview is India’s Toughest Interview. You must have read in many articles that Service Selection Board  Interview is the trickiest interview. In some places you must have read that it is the toughest one. In fact, the candidates who appear in this interview also second this opinion, that SSB is India’s toughest interview. So we decided to dig into this point even more and thus this article talks about why SSB is India’s toughest interview.
SSB Interview Preparation Material [ 100% Recommended]

Why SSB Interview in India’s Toughest Interview

  • Instead of ‘best’ fit, they want ‘right’ fit: Defence Forces are one such organization which doesn’t want the best people as officers, they want the right people. In other organizations if you go and there are ‘n’ number of people who have come here for interview, then they’ll select based on the number of posts. They’ll select amongst the lot, who they think is best for the job. Whereas in SSB they want the right fit. If they won’t find the right fit, they’ll simply reject all the other people, if they find the right fit in all, then they’ll recommend all. You must have read that there is a shortage of officers in the forces, this is the major reason for that. Since SSB is a very tough interview and they want the right fit and not the best one, hence the reason for the vacant seats.
  • The three-pronged selection style: In SSB three people access you from three different perspectives. The psychologist accesses you from your mind, he/she makes sure that you have the necessary qualities that an officer must have, by putting you under several tests. The Interviewing officers talk to you one on one and draw his conclusion based on your answers. The GTO tests you for your group compatibility and other social qualities. If you are passed by any two (in some cases all three), then only you are recommended. The conclusions of these officers are independent and nobody interferes in other one’s deduction. They never discuss anything about any candidate except for the board conference.
WHY SSB INTERVIEW IN INDIA'S TOUGHEST INTERVIEW

  • Mansa, Karma, Vachan and the OLQ’s:It is said that in order to pass the SSB you must be the same person in all the three assessors’ conclusion. This means you must possess certain OLQ’s and these should be the same in all the three results. In other words what you write in the psychological tests papers should be in line with what you say to the interviewing officer and these should match with how you perform in the GT series. If you are not putting any fake reaction then generally the results of all three assessors must match, thus you get recommended.
  • The secrecy of results (Self-Introspection): There is a common complaint amongst the candidates that in SSB nobody gets to know where he/she lacked. Thus the results are secret and you shortcomings are never told. It is entirely left on the candidate to think, introspect and derive the conclusion where they lacked; in which test they performed bad or what might be the possible reason for rejection. It just leaves you wondering, and is very difficult to guess where you lacked because sometimes your conclusion can be entirely different. So, all in all, you never really get to know the reason for your rejection.

10 Major Points Freshers Must Know about SSB Interview

1

A freshers mind is filled with anticipation and fear, when he/she goes for SSB. They try to gather as much information as they can before going to the interview, from various sources, both reliable and unreliable. It is said that for fresher’s it is a golden opportunity to get through, which is not so true. If you are good and deserving then some day or the other you’ll make it. But certainly it is the best feeling to clear something in your first attempt. This article is especially for freshers, we have tried to sum up ten major points which you must know before going for the SSB.

  1. OIR test is important and you must practice well before going. It forms a major part for your selection for the nest round, and you must be prepared to perform well in the OIR. In some selection centers OIR is very difficult, so be prepared and do not take this lightly.
  2. Clothes in the screening, I have seen people coming in jeans getting selected and those coming in full formals getting rejected. You should be in decent clothes. It is suggested that you wear formals, for women, salwar kurta would do. Wearing proper clothes shows that you are sincere.
  3. Hearing to their instructions is very very important. It must be a practice to listen to others. Whatever instructions they give contain half of the information of what they want in that test. If you can follow them, you are sure to succeed.
    Must%2BKnow%2Babout%2BSSB%2BInterview
  4. In GD the amount of words you speak is not important, it is the quality that matters. Whatever you speak should be substantial and must guide the discussion forward.
  5. Interviewing officers are very friendly and sometimes would be very nice, but they are not generous and they are not your friend! Be aware of them, do not speak your heart out, say whatever is necessary.
  6. Speaking first in the discussion and being ahead in every task is never a guarantee for success. A good leader is the one who is able to take out the group at the time of crisis. You must be able to get along with the group well.
  7. If they are pressurizing you, putting you under stress, then you are a compatible candidate and they want to make sure that you are good. So do not get worried when you are put under pressure in interview or in command task. Try to deliver the best.
  8. There are no officers monitoring you in the mess, or at the station or when you book out. These are juts common myths that they even grade you at these places. Grading is done only during tasks, but you are expected to behave like a gentle person throughout, which is not much to ask for.
  9. Take your extracurricular certificates along with you. AT the time of interview they want the file just before you enter. Preferably arrange all your certificates in a folder, from the most recent to the last recent. Make sure that the achievements you are about to write in your PIQ (One more point PIQ is very important, refer to our dedicated article on that), are seconded by a certificate.
  10. This is the last point but is very important. Don’t forget to smile, breathe, it is not that hard, you just tend to complicate anything when you take undue stress for that and even easy things become difficult. So smile!

G.K Boost Series- Dispute of the South China Sea and the Indian Perspective

0

Hello amigos, today we will try to decrypt and simplify the South China Sea dispute and try to understand what it means to India. The South China Sea issue has been the topic of discussion in almost every TV channel and newspaper and therefore it becomes important from the point of view of the personal interview.

WHAT IS SOUTH CHINA SEA

It is a stretch of sea surrounding the Singapore, Malacca and the Taiwan straits. It is a part of the Pacific Ocean. Basically, it is the sea area lying between Vietnam, Indonesia, china (southern) and Taiwan. It is a very important area in many aspects. Not only it is rich in marine habitat, it is also known to be a source of crude oil and natural gas. In addition to this, half of the world’s trade passes from the South China Sea.

THE DISPUTE

Given the advantageous aspects of the region there has been a constant strife going on between seven states namely, china, Taiwan, Indonesia, Brunei, Philippines, Malaysia and Vietnam. As all these states have their land boundaries attached to the South China Sea region, there have been several attempts by these countries to establish their hegemonic control over the region. China being the most powerful country among them is accused of undermining the voice of the other countries and carrying out military and economic (oil exploration) activities in the disputed region. This issue has garnered international interest recently with countries like US, UK expressing their concerns.

Dispute of the South China Sea and the Indian Perspective

INDIA’S INTEREST

55% of the India’s trade with the world passes through the South China Sea. India must have navigational freedom in this region. To counter china, India’s oil company ONGC has invested in Vietnamese oil exploration program in the region. This gives India and its navy a good enough reason to be present there and pay goodwill visits to the disputed countries in the region. Given the look east (now act east) policy of India, its presence in the South China Sea will not only strengthen its ties with the Asia pacific region but also give an opportunity to enhance the bilateral trade. Hence, this region is very strategic from the political and economic point of view.

Dispute of the South China Sea and the Indian Perspective

CONCLUSION

Given the nuances of the situation India must be careful while taking any steps in any direction in the South China Sea issue. India must ensure peace, security and freedom of navigation in the region without directly intervening into the matter.

I hope this article has helped you to get some hold of the topic. Yours views, suggestions and queries are always welcome at [email protected].

It will be recalled that Government had given a nod to raising one more Pre-Commission Training Academy in the year 2010, primarily to plug the officers shortage in the Army. Consequently, OTA, Gaya was raised on 18 July 2011 with the motto of ‘Shaurya, Gyan, Sankalp’ (Courage, Wisdom, Resolve). Army, Navy or the Air Force?

0
Army, Navy or the Air Force

Greetings to all the gallant aspirants, we all just love our defence forces, be it the arduous army, the noble navy or the awesome air force. However, when it comes to choosing a force amongst these three, it becomes a cumbersome task. Today we will discuss about the nuances of the three forces which would help you to decide which one is the most suitable for you.

HOW THE THEY ARE DIFFERENT

Though the basic military training received by the officers is the same in all the three forces, they differ in their operations.
The army is predominantly responsible to carry out land based military operations. An army officer must be very agile and show grit and determination in testing times. He should be ready to serve the nation in any type of climate (hot, dry, and humid).
The navy has the onus of safeguarding our oceans. India is blessed to have a feted coastline of 7517 km. An officer in the Indian navy should have the temerity to sail continuously for a long period of time. He must possess adequate perspicacity to deal with marine life.
The air force is the guardian of our skies. Flying a fighter jet is a long cherished dream of many of us. Becoming an air force officer is not a cup of tea; one must be audacious and courageous to fly the planes at any height at any climate.

It also must be noted that all the three forces have engineers and pilots serving for them but their work is quite different from the other.

SPECIALITIES

In the army you will get the privilege of getting posted at the entire country including very remote locations like the Kashmiri valley and the north eastern states. In the navy you will discharge your duties in the coastal states like Orissa, Goa, Kerala etc. In the air force you will be placed in very strategic locations across the country like adampur (Punjab), Jamnagar (Gujarat). In addition to that in the army you have the privilege to operate tanks, artillery, and certain delicate machinery. In the navy you get to enjoy the opportunity to explore the marine life. You can become a diver, an observer or a marine commando (MARCOS). Life in the air force is full of adventure, not only do you get to soar on the skies; you also undergo special para training. CONCLUSION

All three forces are the same in the eye of our nation. All of them work 24*7 to protect us from any kind of threat. Though the selection procedure (SSB) is more or less the same for all of them, it depends on the individual to choose the field of his interest. Before making a choice you must keep in mind your likes, dislikes, physical and mental strength. It also must be noted that the medical parameters of all the forces are different from each other. Hence, consider all the above mentioned parameters and make a wise choice.
