What GTO Looks for In a Group Discussion?

1
Group Discussion GTO

Group Discussion or GD has been a part of regular selections for any organisation but there will be GD’s that will happen in SSB too, but with different tone. The GD that happens at the time of screening round would be based on group discussing the hazy picture while the GD that happens during the GTO round would be based on some topic of interest.

The similarity between the GD’s is that in all the things that happen for SSB, the OLQ’s are only being judged in the aspirant. The difference lies in the GD’s that happen in SSB and other jobs is that everything is psychologically judged at SSB and search of qualities is there. So remember this in mind and perform and prepare accordingly.

It is the basic quality of human being that they tend to give suggestions and discuss their view points in group and the same is expected in the GD also, but people consider GD in different tones and sometimes make it a fish market. So remember this in GD that it’s simply a group discussing about a topic, so all the group norms should be followed.

Sufficient time would be given so that everyone has the opportunity to present their views. People have many misconceptions related to GD that if they speak more or if they start speaking they will get benefits. This does not actually happen and sometimes get the whole group out because of the few people only. I will discuss fish market situation in a different article. Now let’s see what the GTO tries to search in a aspirant while he is performing in a GD:

  • Good Communication skills are must in GD. English should be the preferred language as many people are there from regions where Hindi is not a prevalent language and they will not understand it. So we should keep this in mind.
  • Leadership is the main observation, but this does not mean that the one who speaks first would only be a leader. A leader has many characteristics and hence all are being observed by the GTO. A moderator is also sometimes looked as a leader, so choose the role that you best fit in.
  • Depth of the subject and the knowledge that is being presented related to the topics also helps in getting noticed in a group. Also the subject matter should be supplemented with examples.
  • Listening to group members is also essential as it may help in conducting a discussion in a beneficial way .Sometimes the GTO may ask for conclusion and hence then the person who listens well only performs well as he knows all the relevant points.

You should know what to do and how to behave in a group and that should be followed diligently. So keep on working hard towards your goal and see what could be the final result off your hard work.

Festive Concern: What Not To Do This Diwali

What Not To Do This Diwali
SSBCrack is wishing you a happy Diwali. Our team wishes each and every follower of our website a very prosperous and safe Diwali. Diwali is a major festival of our country, like Christmas & Eid. It is celebrated in high spirits all over the country, with great joy and enthusiasm. We want you too take care of a few things this Diwali, though you may have heard most of it many times, yet it is our appeal this time too that you follow them.

  1. Please do not burn a lot of crackers. It is good to show your happiness but are crackers the only way to show it? If you are very fond of them burn a few which are less noisy.
  2. Instead of candles light the diya’s. They are much ecofriendly way of celebrating diwali. Plus you’ll be bringing happiness to the homes of the small vendors who prepare them and sell them.
  3. Instead of going to big places for shopping of diya’s and other stuff, buy them from the small vendors who sell it.
  4. Try not to bargain with the vendors as you buy stuff from them. Would you bargain at Reliance Fresh or Big Bazaar? Then why here?
    Indian Army Diwali
  5. Buy happiness for some under privileged kid. Happiness does not necessarily means a box full of crackers and a new dress. It’ll mean a bar of chocolate or a few sweets.
  6. Do not irritate animals by burning crackers near them. How would it fel if they did the same to you?
  7. Convince somebody to not burst crackers. Find somebody who bursts a lot of crackers, convince that person to reduce the amount or stop. It is good to work against pollution.
  8. Take care of your grand-parents or anybody who is ill. In the pomp and show of diwali do not forget their comfort.
  9. Talk a little about the well-being of the kid you see selling diwali stuff on the streets. If possible buy something from them.
  10. Do anything else you feel will make this diwali a better and happier one, not only for you but for others too.
  11. Spreading good message is nice, so spread this message as much as you can.
Happy Diwali!

How to Write Best PPDT Stories in Screening

2
PPDT Stories in Screening

PPDT or Picture Perception and Discussion Test is a part of the screening test in SSB. Screening test consists of two parts, OfficersIntelligence and Rating Test (OIR) and PPDT. In order to get through the Screening Process you need to perform well in both the tests. PPDT is a picture based test. Here you’ll be shown a picture for 30 seconds and you have to write a story based on that picture in 4 minutes. You also have to write the action of the story and mark the characters on it. For more details on the procedure of PPDT please refer to the specific article on Picture Perception and Discussion test our website.

You can also get some sample pictures for the same on our website. In this article we’ll be discussing on how to write the best stories for your PPDT.

  1. Observe the picture very carefully and minutely, and then collect all the resources you can see. Resources are the basic things available in the picture which you must not miss.
  2. Make a practical, rational story. You need to make a story which is possible in real life. Don’t write something which you know is impossible. Don’t make a very far from reality story.
  3. Make a rough outline of the story you want to build up. Do not start writing randomly, without thinking anything. You need to draw an outline on what your story will be based on.
  4. The picture will be hazy most of the times. So you need to concentrate more and observe very closely. Try to imagine positive things and weave your story on a positive angle.
  5. You story must have a direction, a positive direction. In that there should be some kind of message, which is again positive.
    PPDT Stories in Screening
  6. There should be a central character. This central character must do something to help anybody else, which will make this character the hero of the story.
  7. It is always good to write a story in which the society is being helped.
  8. Never write a pre conceived story. Some candidates see a few stories and then try to somehow make it fit into the shown picture.
  9. If something is very evident in the picture do not neglect it. It might be a negative thing but you can turn the negative into positive. Showing a struggle of the hero and then making him win is always okay. Take that part into consideration and include it.
  10. Let your imagination run and then definitely you’ll get good results. Practice writing stories from before, that’ll give you an idea about the time management.
The work is not yet over. You need to present your story in a very efficient manner in discussion. Discussion is equally important. So focus on that too.

How to Write Excellent Story on TAT Pictures

How to Write Best Stories on TAT Pictures

Thematic Apperception Test is a part of the Psychological Test series. In this test, you are supposed to write 11+1 stories. You’ll be shown 11 pictures and one blank picture. You have to write in three minutes a story on each of them. The pictures will appear on the screen for 30 seconds. The pictures here are not so hazy as in PPDT but in some boards, they do show hazy pictures, so be prepared for that. You can get sample TAT slides on our website.

How to Write Best Stories on TAT Pictures

In this article, we’ll be discussing how to write the best TAT stories.

  1. The story should reflect some of your quality. Have you even thought why psychologists make you write 12 stories? Definitely so that they can get some idea about what all qualities you have, so make sure your story is representing one or more quality. This quality should be a part of the OLQ list.
  2. You understood that your story should represent some quality, now how to do that? The tool by which you’ll represent your quality is your hero of the story. The central character in the story is no one but you. Whatever that character does directly reflects your personality.
  3. There is a misconception that the characters gender should be the same as yours. This is not the case, however it is advisable to make the same gender character a hero but if you have only the characters of other gender in the picture then don’t hesitate to make them hero.
  4. One main aspect of writing the story is observing the picture carefully. Do not rush and just have a look and start writing, instead spend the 30 seconds watching the picture, observing everything from the background to the characters and making mental note of each. Start weaving a story in your head.
  5. Write positive things in your story. It is not advisable to show death unnecessarily if not evident, or show the hero to be orphan. Remember you are making a practical, realistic story and not some movie! Keep that extra masala away. Many people think that there won’t be any struggle without killing somebody in the story!
  6. The hero of your story should have a purpose in his life, that person should have some short term goal and must be shown achieving them in the story. Make sure the goals are practical and short term. The goals depend on your story. Lets say that if there is a picture in which a boy is crossing a road and sees and accident then don’t write that the boy is going somewhere, write that xyz, a college/school student (purpose in life: studies), was going to tutions or market when he saw an accident (the goal would be to take the victim to hospital, save the victim, which is practical and achievable).
  7. The story must have a past, present and future.
  8. In the blank slide also write a story which is reflecting some OLQ. Follow all the norms which you followed while writing the other stories.
  9. The major mistake which candidates do is rushing towards writing the story and not observing the picture, hence again it is being repeated that observe the picture very carefully.
  10. Maintain a legible and neat handwriting. The ideal size of a story is 75-100 words.

Trick To Do Well In Individual Obstacle Round of SSB

0

This round is one of the nine rounds that are conducted on ground under GTO officer. This provides aspirant an opportunity to showcase individual stamina, courage and how individual respond to obstacles that are somewhat replica of that may come in real life. The IO course would have 10 obstacles spread in a field in a sequence and a predetermined order. Each obstacle is numbered from 1 to 10 and the number also designates the mark that an aspirant will get once he completes that specific obstacle. The numbers are given as per the difficulty level of the obstacles. Also there is a special rule of repetition that if in a given time an aspirant completes all obstacles he or she can repeat the object and gain more marks.

The time allotted to complete the task is 3 minutes and the total score of the objects is 55 in one round of competition. The following obstacles are available which are more or less same for different entries:

  • Rope climbing
  • Tarzon swing
  • Double ditch
  • Commando walk
  • High jump over wired drum
  • Screen jump
  • Balance pole
  • Burma bridge
  • Tiger leap
  • Monkey crawl
The following tips can help in performing better as this is the only chance in SSB where individual calibre in ground is studied while other rounds of GTO study group calibre apart from lecturrette. Follow the following:
  • Keep yourself physically fit and exercise regularly to maintain proper stamina as it needs a lot of running to reach various obstacles within the time limit.
  • Rope climbing, push up’s, pull ups can help in long run and smooth functioning gaining more marks.
    GTO Task
  • You should be alert at the rope in tiger leap and should hold it firmly leaving it afterwards and coming down. This needs to be done so that the hands do not get scratch and other rounds can be done successfully.
  • It is not at all needed to repeat tasks or complete many but the determination to complete and fight for what you have started is analysed, so work with this strategy. Be alert so that you don’t get wounded as it happens many times during this round.

At the end all the images formed by three assessors of different rounds should match which leads to recommendation. Body language is very important and I would deal it in a separate article. Still If you feel the need of individualised assessment and mocks from your home itself through mentoring or you have a query bothering your mind which hinders your preparation drop me a mail at [email protected]or add me on Fb and drop in a message. It would be a pleasure to help and resolve queries and clear doubts which are more often myths that are present in the place.

Secret of Success in Personal Interview at SSB

0
OTA lady officers

Interview is a simple process where two or more than two people interact to come to a conclusion of the presence of certain traits that one assessor looks in to the other person who is the interviewee and the aspirant in the case of SSB process. Every organisation has this type of testing done before selecting someone to become part of the organisation. PI is a time tested method which surely judges the person in terms of knowledge, communication, confidence and many other qualities that are very specific to organisational roles for which the interviews are organised.

SSB process has many interviews in different forms but one big interview would be with the officer who would be either the President or deputy President of the board. Such people are really senior and have a vast knowledge to judge people at different levels. Many OLQ’s are being judges but apart from that there are several other things that have impact in PI and if such things are taken care of, it could lead to wonders.
  • Intelligence, power of expression
  • Body language, gestures and eye moments
  • Planning and delegating
  • Social adjustment,
  • Dynamic workout
  • Courage, stamina, hard work and determination
  • Appropriate assessment of others
  • True behaviour to the image portrayed on papers
    OTA lady cadets
Please remember that the officer is trying to revisit your full life with the intention of just to analyse what’s your background and what impact all your surroundings had on your personality. So be true to whatever you fill in PIQ and don’t take it lightly. Also ensure you do not miss on something important including your extracurricular, achievements (however small or big it might be) Position of responsibilities etc.
  • Interviewer will welcome you with a smile don’t just get afraid of it and he might offer a handshake which should be immediately and warmly accepted by the candidate.
  • Don’t sit without permission of officer. He might delay the orders in order to test something but don’t worry he might not make you stand for long. Just don’t hide the chair and stand in front of it. Ideal way is to stand at side.
  • Be confident and get along with the officer when he tries to build a comfortable environment by asking about you. There are specific things that should be told in such questions and this also decides your fate for future questions so design it in your comfortable way beforehand by practicing it well.
