The National Defence
Academy (NDA) is one of India’s iconic and prestigious institutions located
in Khadakwasla, Pune, Maharashtra. Moreover,
It is the first tri-services Academy in the world where cadets of all the three
services, the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force train together before they go on to respective service
academy for further pre-commission training. The grace and grandeur of NDA are
clear from the fact itself that till now, NDA has also produced 27 service
Chiefs of Staff and, in addition to that, 3 Param Vir Chakra recipients and 12
Ashok Chakra recipients. Apart from the training, cadets are also set for
studies where they pursue their graduation with BA(or)BSc or BCs (Computer
Science) degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University.
The roots of NDA lies back in history during the end of World
War II when Field Marshal Claude Auchinleck, then Commander-in-Chief of the
Indian Army, watched and experienced the performance of the army during the
war, came up with a committee and submitted a report to the Government of
India. The committee had emphatically underlined the need for ‘Jointness’ in
modern warfare, as It was correctly believed that it is primarily the element
of teamwork that provides the significant asymmetric edge in a conflict
situation. Before the plans, In 1941, India also received £100,000 from the
grateful Sudanese Government to build a war memorial to commemorate the Indian
troops’ sacrifices in the Second World War, where The Indian Army decided to
use these funds to cover the cost of construction of the NDA partly. Later the
foundation stone of NDA was laid by then the prime minister of India,
Jawaharlal Nehru, on 6 October 1949, and it got commissioned finally on 7
December 1954, with an inauguration ceremony held on 16 January 1955.
With a large number of Cadets joining NDA twice a year, it
becomes a little hard to manage things. So, for a simplified version, there are
5 Battalions and 18 squadrons in theAcademy. On the
reporting day, cadets are allotted to one of the 18 Squadrons, which then
becomes their home for the next three years. Though, as such official names of
battalions are not given, they are treated as Tiger, Dolphin, Eagle, Abhimanyu, and Hawks.
Furthermore, these battalions contain 18 squadrons in them, which individually
have their unique nickname, an individual identity with a richly textured

Here, each Squadron comprises approximately 100 to 120 cadets from a mixture of seniors and juniors under training in the Academy. These squadrons comprise a diverse mixture of cadets from various landmarks of India who come together to cherish the bond of mutual trust and brotherhood among them. There is also a prestigious Inter Squadron Championship Trophy, which is awarded to the best Squadron, and the one who wins it has the proud tradition of possession of the Champion banner for one term which is carried during the parade, and other sports meets. Though the cadets get divided by squadrons, their main motive lies in the NDA motto: “Service Before Self.”
Ministry of Defence (MoD) is now ready for a big push to Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. MoD will introduce import embargo on 101 items beyond given timeline to boost indigenisation of defence production. The list of 101 embargoed items comprises of not just simple parts but also some high tech weapon systems like artillery guns, assault rifles, corvettes, sonar systems, transport aircraft, LCHs, radars & many other items to fulfil needs of our Defence Services.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, “The list of 101 embargoed items comprises of not just simple parts but also some high technology weapon systems like artillery guns, assault rifles, corvettes, sonar systems, transport aircraft, LCHs, radars and many other items to fulfil the needs of our Defence Services.”
On such items, 3 services spent ₹ 3.5 L Cr (2015-2020). Now with this embargo, ₹ 4 L Cr orders likely to be placed upon the domestic industry in next 5-7 years. Army- 1.3L Cr Navy- 1.3L Cr AF- 1.4L Cr.
If not you, then who, If not now, then when. Hello friends. I’m Ayushi Pradhan. I’m from Meerut, UP. I got recommended in my 5th attempt from 1 AFSB, Dehradun on 3 Jan 2020. And I got merit in for Aug 2020 course at Airforce Academy. Today, I’ll be sharing my defence journey which consists of lots of ups and downs.
I started preparing for AFCAT and CDS exams in my final year of B.tech. Meanwhile, I got my call up letter for Indian Navy at 33 SSB, Bhopal on 1 Dec 2018. I was very excited for my first SSB. I started collecting all information about the 5 days process through friends and internet. During my preparation, I observed a lot of change in my personality like I was becoming more confident in public speaking and dwelling into a routine for the first time in my life. I prepared a separate diary to write my observations after self introspection. Also, I was following up current affairs daily from newspaper and internet. I purchased SSBCrack booklet for OIR and practiced from it. I didn’t practice writing psychology and maybe that’s why I was conference out but I was not demotivated because it was worth a experience.
After a few days CDS 2 2018 results came and I was so happy that I cleared it in first attempt in my final year only. I selected my SSB date on 1 June 2019 at 34 SSB Allahabad. I had heard a lot about Allahabad being the rejection board. So I was quite nervous also that what if I get screened out. Also since I was a repeater now, I had many doubts in my mind. Again, I got conference out in my second attempt. I was upset but then I was looking forward to AFCAT result.
Meanwhile I got a campus placement at Bharti Airtel and joined the company on 17 June 2019 at Gurgaon. After a few days AFCAT 1 2019 result came and I cleared it. I selected my SSB date on 1 July 2019 at 3 AFSB Gandhinagar. This time I was screened out. It came to me as a major set back. I came back to my job and started my preparation. I gave exams of Territorial Army , CDS 1 2019, and BSF but couldn’t clear any. This was the point in my life when I felt very much under confident and depressed. My father suggested me to give other exams as well. Half heartily, I appeared for several exams like IBPS PO, EPFO, etc but couldn’t crack even a single written.
The sole reason was I wasn’t able to manage studies along with the job. I was highly disappointed to see my performance getting poorer because I have always been one of the toppers in my school and college. So, I had high expectations from myself.
Then I gathered my thoughts and started to make a balanced routine again. I cleared INET which was held for the first time. Then I went to 33 SSB, Bhopal on 4 Dec, 2019. To my shock, I got screened out once again. This time I felt completely broke. It took me a lot to gather myself earlier and again here I was. After these two continuous screen outs, my morale was sinking down. I had absolutely no idea what am I going to do next because it was already an year since I appeared for my first SSB.
Then AFCAT 2 2019 results were out. I selected my SSB date as 30 Dec 2019 at 1 AFSB, Dehradun. I had selected the dates but to be honest I had no heart to go for it. Because after two continuous screen outs, I was afraid to face one more. But my father who has always been there with me in all of my SSBs, he pushed me to go for it. He believed that I’ll surely make it this time. So I applied 15 days leaves at office and came back home for preparation. This time I made a lot of changes in writing psychology. I practiced TAT, WAT, SRT daily. And I felt the progress I was making. Things were getting more clear to me. I worked on my weak areas, practiced speaking in front of mirror, read news daily, wrote down my personal observations and maintained a physical exercise routine.
On 29 Dec, I packed my stuff and reached Dehradun along with my father and stayed at a guest room near the SSB centre. I got up early in the morning and got ready for screening. Around 300 girls reported in morning at 1 AFSB, Dehradun. After documentation, we were divided in the groups of 15 each. I was very much nervous inside. So, I was motivating myself that I’ll forget everything and give my best.
My OIR went excellent. In PPDT, there was a village scene in which a group of people were standing by road side. I made a story around bringing in the concept of e-rikshaw in the village so that students could go to their schools and colleges without waiting for local buses which get delayed often. I recited my story clearly and confidently and maintained eye contact with everyone in the group. Group discussion was a big fish market but other candidates appreciated my story and chose it to take as a common theme. I got a chance to speak 3 times in which I tried to touch the points which no one had mentioned. I was satisfied with my performance. Then in the afternoon results were announced. The moment I heard my chest number, I was so elated. I went up running and joined the group of screened in candidates. I was given chest number 68. Total 80 girls got screened in. We were then divided into groups of 10 each. Then we went to our respective rooms. Our room was ‘Chetak’. We all introduced ourselves and settled. After a little rest, we got ready for the psychology test that was to be held in the evening.
Most of the TAT pictures were female oriented. I wrote all good TAT stories based on my own experiences. I was able to complete all 60 WAT, 60 SRT and Self Description on time. I was quite happy with my psych performance as this was the first time when I was able to complete the entire test on time. Also, I reflected all dimensions of my personality in my psych. The next day was free for us so we went out to visit Dehradun. We went to Paltan Bazar, Buddhist Monastery and explored the markets. This visit had united our group so well and we all became good friends. We brought cake, chocolates and many snacks to celebrate New years Eve. It was the best group of girls I had met and I was so thankful for it.
Our interviews were scheduled on third day. My interview went for 50 min in which interviewer grilled me a lot. I was able to answer all personal questions confidently. But when it came to Gk part, I wasn’t able to answer most of his questions. To which he grilled me a lot and maintained a pressure throughout. I was not setting back because of this grilling but I was simply denying the questions which I didn’t know. Since I was eligible for technical branch, he asked me many typical technical questions which I simply denied to know. He even said that, “why have you come for SSB when you know nothing, go back”. After I came back to room, I analysed my interview with my group. And came to the conclusion that he was putting pressure to test me.
The next day was GTO 1st day which started with GD. Whenever I got the chance to speak, I put my opinion clearly stating facts as explanation. I was able to solve Group Planning Exercise on time and discussion was again a fish market. In Group Obstacle Race, I along with my group maintained high josh and helped each other. In PGT, I was going with the flow and helping my group. But I couldn’t get a chance to execute my ideas as everyone was hustling. So I grabbed the opportunity in HGT and presented the idea. GTO asked me to execute the same in various other ways. At the end of day, I was satisfied with my performance. In nights we used to chatter and discuss almost everything from world and around. It was fun to be a part of this group.
Next day we had our GTO 2nd day followed by the conference. My lecturette topic was – CPEC(China Pakistan Economic Corridor). I spoke confidently about it and explained the inter relationship between countries along with China’s aggressive policies. I have been very much into literary events in my school and college, so, this served as a benefit to me. In Individual Obstacles, I could complete 7 out of 8 in the time frame given. In Command Task, I was called thrice by my group mates. GTO asked me about my previous attempts before CT. My command task was quite difficult one. So I took time in understanding it and then commanding subordinates. GTO raised the difficulty level by removing the material twice. And I was able to complete it somehow.
Now the final milestone was left- Conference. I was asked a personal question in my conference and other formal questions about stay and food. Around 4PM, we were ready to listen to results. One by one chest numbers were being called. When I heard my chest number, I wanted to shout loud but I maintained my calm and went ahead. It was a beautiful moment. From our group I and my friend Chetna got recommended. We both were so happy and congratulated each other.
It was not the preparation of just 15 days which helped me to achieve recommendation but the entire journey of 5 attempts which improved me gradually. Now after getting into the merit, I can say it with proof that efforts pay off. If I can make it, you can also. Just don’t give up on your dreams. Even if failures throw you back, come back stronger. TES 44 Notification 10+2 TECHNICAL ENTRY SCHEME 44 January 2021 Course. Indian army is going to publish the TES 44 notification on 10th August 2020 for the candidates who have completed 12th standard with PCM with an aggregate of 70%. TES 44 Online applications will open from 10 August 2020. Applications are invited from unmarried Male Candidates who have passed 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (Hereinafter referred to as PCM) subjects and fulfill the eligibility conditions prescribed in the subsequent paragraphs, for the grant of Permanent Commission in the Army after four years of Basic Military Training and Technical Training thereafter with the terms and conditions given in the succeeding paragraphs.
TES 44 Age Limit: A candidate must not be below 16½ years and above 19½ years on the first day of the month in which the course is due to commence i.e. the candidate should not be born before 01 Jul 2001 and not after 01 Jul 2004 (both days inclusive).
TES 44 Educational Qualification: Only those candidates who have passed 10+2 Examination or its equivalent with a minimum aggregate of 70% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from recognized education boards are eligible to apply for this entry. Eligibility condition for calculating PCM percentage of various state /central boards will be based on marks obtained in Class XII only.
Training
Basic Military Training: 1 year (Officer Training Academy Gaya).
Technical Training: (i) Phase-I (Pre Commission Training): 3 Years (CME Pune or MCTE Mhow or MCEME Secunderabad), (ii) Phase-II (Post Commission Training): 1 year at CME Pune or MCTE Mhow or MCEME Secunderabad.
Award of Degree: The candidates will be awarded Engineering degree after successful completion of the final examination. No ante date will be admissible to candidates on account of this Engineering degree. During the last two semesters, the officers will be permitted only one relegation on academic grounds. This relegation will be within the maximum two relegations permitted on academic grounds in the entire Engineering degree (8 semesters) in accordance with JNU Ordinance. Any further relegation of the officer on academic grounds will lead to termination of his commission.
Vacancies: 90. The Vacancies are provisional and can be changed depending on the training capacity at the Training Academy for this course. The vacancies are subject to increase/decrease keeping the organizational requirement at the point of time.
Height relaxable upto 2.5 cm may be allowed where the Medical Board certifies that the candidate is likely to grow and come up to the required standard on completion of his training.
Vacancies: 90 (Vacancies are provisional and can be changed depending on the training capacity at the Training Academy for this course. The vacancies are subject to increase/decrease keeping the organizational requirement at the point of time.)
Type of Commission: On successful completion of 4 years of the course, cadets will be granted Permanent Commission in the Army in the rank of Lt.
Seniority: They will be granted seniority on overall order of merit of the three technical institutes combined i.e. CME, MCTE, MCEME and in case the date of commissioning coincides with that of IMA, Dehradun, they will be placed en-block junior to IMA (NDA/ ACC / DE Course ) but above TGC / UES course.
Fixed Stipend for Cadet Training. The gentlemen cadets will be given a stipend of Rs. 56,100/-p.m.* as is admissible to NDA cadets on completion of 3 years training. On completion of 4 Years training, they will be commissioned in the rank of Lt and entitled to pay as admissible to the rank.

Selection Procedure
Shortlisting of Applications. Integrated HQ of MoD (Army) reserves the right to shortlist applications based on cut off percentage applied as decided. After shortlisting of candidates, the Centre allotment will be intimated to the candidate online. After allotment of Selection Centre, candidates will have to log in to the website and select their SSB dates on a first come first serve basis.
Only shortlisted eligible candidates depending on the cutoff percentage will undergo SSB at one of the Selection Centres i.e, Allahabad (UP), Bhopal (MP), Bengaluru (Karnataka) or Kapurthala (Punjab) by Psychologist, Group Testing Officer and Interviewing Officer. Call Up letter for SSB interview will be issued by respective Selection Centres on candidate’s registered e-mail ID and SMS only. Allotment of Selection Centre is at the discretion of Directorate General of Recruiting, Integrated Headquarters of MoD (Army) and NO request for changes are entertained in this regard.
Candidates will be put through two stage selection procedure. Those who clear Stage I will go to Stage II. Those who fail in Stage I will be returned on the same day. Duration of SSB interview is five days and details of the same are available at the official website of Directorate General of Recruiting www.joinindianarmy.nic.in. This will be followed by a medical examination for the candidates who get recommended after Stage II.
In the eventuality of being recommended by SSB, candidate should have no objection for undergoing medical examination by board of Male/Female doctors.
Candidates recommended by the SSB and declared medically fit, will be issued joining letter for training in the order of merit, depending on the number of vacancies available.
The finally selected candidates will execute all the Bonds/Certificates as prescribed for the Cadets of NDA entry under AI 53/78.
The candidate will not have any objection in the event of final selection, on allotment of any Arm/Service in the interest of organisation.
PROCEDURE FOR COMMON CANDIDATES : TES & NDA ENTRY
The candidates who apply for 10+2 Technical Entry Scheme (TES) and National Defence Academy (NDA & NA) parallel courses need to undergo a medical examination by a Board of Service Medical Officers for the entries recommended.
Those candidates who are recommended for TES prior to their NDA SSB will have to undergo medical for TES and NDA (AF and Navy) separately.
If only NDA Army is their preference these TES candidates need not undergo NDA medical again. The NDA medical examination will begin only after the candidate is declared FIT in TES medicals.
The candidates who are recommended in NDA prior to SSB for TES need not undergo medical for TES separately. The Medical Status for TES (10+2) will be same as NDA (Army) medical examination. A candidate declared UNFIT in NDA will be considered UNFIT for TES as well.
If the candidate is found UNFIT/ UNFIT IN ABSENTIA at any stage of medical examination in any entry i.e. TES or NDA & NA parallel courses he will be declared UNFIT for both the entries and no representation will be accepted thereafter.
MERIT LIST: IT MUST BE NOTED THAT MERE QUALIFYING AT THE SSB INTERVIEW DOES NOT CONFIRM FINAL SELECTION. MERIT WILL BE PREPARED ON THE BASIS OF MARKS OBTAINED BY THE CANDIDATE AT SSB INTERVIEW. HIGHER EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS, PREVIOUS PERFORMANCES, NCC BACKGROUND ETC. HAVE NO ROLE TO PLAY FOR FINALIZATION OF MERIT LIST. JOINING LETTERS TO JOIN PRE-COMMISSION TRAINING AT OTA, GAYA WILL ONLY BE ISSUED SUBJECT TO VACANCIES AND MEDICAL FITNESS.

Captain DV Sathe, who was the pilot of the ill-fated Air India Express Flight No IX 1344 from Dubai to Kozhikode which crashed landed at Karipur International Airport, was a former Indian Air Force Test pilot. According to his colleagues, he was a wonderful pilot and a great human being. Captain DV Sathe has died in the plane crash.

Indian Air Force has postponed the Airmen Group X and Group Y online exam called STAR 1 2020 again. According the IAF the necessary arrangements to conduct the exam was not in place due to COVID-19 lock down and various other state protocols.
Official Statement: STAR 01/2020 e-Pariksha in Mar 2020 has been postponed due to outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. All efforts were made to conduct STAR 01/20 online examination in the third week of Aug 2020. However, due to various State protocols and lockdown restrictions, online exam has been delayed further. Fresh dates will be intimated in due course. For updates CASB web portal (https://airmenselection.cdac.in) can be referred. Candidates are required to see the web portal regularly.

Observe
that you get a message to your registered mobile number and the registered
e-mail that you have successfully finished Part-I of the application.
Save and download the Part-I successful registration slip.
Click
and directly go to Part-II of the application.
Type
the Registration ID that you got in your mail (or message in your
registered mobile) from the UPSC. Enter your Date of Birth and rewrite the
fresh captcha.
Do
the necessary payment of ₹ 200 (offline mode has to be done through
downloading e-challan and paying it at the nearest SBI bank branch, online
would be easier by Credit/Debit Cards, net-banking is also available).
Save the Payment Slip and download it since it contains Transaction ID and Payment status,
something particularly important.
Click
on CONTINUE.
Upload the
scanned photograph, scanned signature, and scanned Photo identity card as per
the instructions given.
Write
your Aadhar ID Number that is automatically verified by the UPSC
website.
Select your exam city.
Click
on I HAVE READ THE DECLARATION – FINALLY SUBMIT.
Rewrite
the registration ID and date of birth and captcha in the new tab opened.
Download the completed Application and note that you get the notification that Part II of this
application has been successful in your mobile and your e-mail too.
Preserve this application and note that admit cards will be available on the UPSC
website three weeks before the commencement of the examination.
