Hi guys I am Vijayshan Singh, final year student of NIT Bhopal, unsatisfied with the current uninteresting work culture I decided to resume my old dream of joining forces, applied for UES Navy pilot, cleared first round, call letter received on 7th December, left GATE preparation in the midst, left for Bangalore to report on 11thย Jan and bang thought I made a big mistake seeing the number of candidates who reported it was 219! Keeping some confidence in myself continued my journey. Next day 12thย Jan screening started, we were shown a picture in which a woman was looking out of a balcony to a car. I made a story that she is a mechanical engineer and she is doing a project on movement of cars, many guys wrote very negative and strange stories which I should not discuss because it may affect your decision making while attempting the same. Then the result was announced after 3 hours of senseless waiting at around 3 pm. One by one chest numbers were announced, 11, 104 โ€ฆ.. random sequence after 50 candidates got their chest numbers I thought I did something wrong and not going to make it, but waitย the story does not end there they went to 56 then the commander shouted 114 yes it was me 1st person to get screened in , it was the weirdest feeling ever, what to do be sad, be happy, l cherished the moment and got my chest number. The accommodation had 8 beds per room so I was given a separate room of my own with 7 empty beds,ย  but mingled with guys really fast the same night I got 5 guys in room playing carom ! I donโ€™t know what guys loved my humor or liveliness but the number grew and caretaker scolded me for causing too much chaos and noise. Next day was psychology tests,ย  I practiced few things at home when I reached there I started writing stories on my friends which were close to every detail. I attempted 43 SRTs because I was trying to be precise and thoughtful and 60 WATS because I made factual sentences and didnโ€™t left any word. We were free in the noon, had average mess food, went to room and discovered we can play volleyball too and joined the group had fun. Many people were in the room trying to cook their responses and fool assessors not having fun but in the end the guys who got recommended were genuine.

Next day I had my interview wore my lucky black tie given by my dad who he use to wear in kumaon regiment wore a shabby old coat, guys made fun of me but it was okay I made fun of them already. The interviewer started with normal question told me to describe your journey in 5 sentences from Bhopal to Bangalore.ย  Then my name etc and after he started interview I was at ease and was responding everything point to point and truth, he asked tremendous details like what my grandfather did in BHEL etc. He mainly concentrated on my family and ability to plan. I forgot many questions in rapid fire I humbly asked him to repeat and sometimes asked him to give me 1 minute to think for the answers because replying before thinking can backfire. He was very supportive and I aced my interview.

Next my GTO started had good GDs then average GPE, in PGT in suggested ideas and helped everyone, similar in HGT and FGT, in snake race we decided that Iโ€™ll be the first to lead and climb obstacles and everyone would support me, everyone agreed had best race, I made our war cry the funniest even GTO laughedย  I proposed โ€œBAHUBALIโ€ as our war cry and it was really fun shouting bahubaliย  in 12 ssb Bangalore. In Individual obstacles I was sure I can do more that 7 easily but made a big blunder as GTO sounded whistle I stood in front of him not in front of the obstacle because I didnโ€™t listen to his briefing carefully, then I improvised started jumping in front of him he was like what is he trying to do, I jumped and jumped and jumped as he whistled again I ran and jumped over the screen jump obstacle to negate previous blunder, as I attempted tiger jump I injured myself and afterย  obstacles I started walking since the time was over, but GTO called me and said attempt the 2 ditch jump that is obstacle number 8, he saw the blood but still, I went and again did a blunder held rope from red area he shouted again I made a blunder holding it from front then he shouted โ€œbloody run and holdโ€ I ran held rope crossed in one attempt.ย  In command task I pitched in ideas before the actual task so that everyone would can complete it because I did coaching for 8 days. Everyone was influenced and I was called 4 times in a group of 7. One guy who called me didnโ€™t ordered anything and ordered me to jump and sit on the next pole like stand, I followed orders and fell 2 times GTO was laughing I was like see the blood in my hand doing IO ! Well in the end, I whispered him the idea he completed his task.

I am chest No. 5

In my lecturette as I was last 57, I forgot to pick up the card for topics, but my good friend poked me to pick the card. I got less time to prepare, I chose โ€œsmart cities can support modern growth or notโ€ I mentioned about modiโ€™s smart city campaign and the GTO was flattered.
GTO ended happily.

Next day was conference I knew everything is sealed and I have been myself past these 4 days and had lot of fun with my friends. I was confident but still the butterfly in the stomach was not calm. I wore my black tie and same coat went to conference, they asked about stay, rate yourself etc, and thank you seeing everyone in their uniform was the best experience.
After an hour the results were announced again this time, my chest number was called aroundย  3rd last, my friend 56 also got recommended so does 51 and so does 13 and allโ€ฆ.:P.ย  Eleven of us got recommended which is a record this year at 12 SSB.
