Captain Ruchi Sharma, who quit in 2003, leapt off an aircraft some 10 years ago to become the first operational woman paratrooper. “Paratroopers have an aura of their own. I always dreamed of breaking into this league of extraordinary gentlemen,” she said.
Ruchi Sharma, one of the 350 women who have literally changed the face of the Indian Army, is the daughter of an army officer who passed out from the same Officers’ Training Academy in Chennai that his daughter did. With her maroon beret at a rakish angle, she proudly notes that she is a “professional paratrooper” not a recreational one.

Capt. Reeta Biyani became the First Lady Paratrooper from Indian Army Dental Corps and 3rd from the Indian Army.
They have undergone the same operational para training and have done more jumps than Capt . Ruchi
Ruchi might be the first from her ordinance corps but she is definitely not the first operational lady paratrooper.

To the best of the knowledge the claim made by Capt. Ruchi Sharma the self claimed First Lady operational paratrooper is wrong.
There have been few much before her .
Let me name the two who created history by becoming the First Lady paratrooper
1. Maj Farida Rehana 1st from Army Medical Corps late late 60-early 70.
2. Capt Jayathi Mukherjee 2nd lady paratrooper from Medical Corps.
Capt. Reeta R Biyani. 1st lady paratrooper from Army Dental Corps in 1984.
After that there were few more.
Capt Ruchi Sharma came much much later and I was surprised to read at many places about her claim and publicity taken.
