The vice chief of Indian Air Force (IAF), Air Marshal S B Deo, is understood to have accidentally shot himself in his thigh, sources said Wednesday. They said he was rushed to a military hospital in Delhi where he underwent a surgery. IAF vice chief Air Marshal SB Deo’s freak gunshot injury. Was operated upon on Wednesday afternoon. He is now stable and conscious. The incident happened around 2 PM when he went home for lunch yesterday. His personal, licensed weapon had come back from service on Wed morning. Just before sitting down for lunch, he wanted to try the weapon. While testing it, the gun apparently jammed and misfired.

The bullet went and scraped the femur bone, luckily missing the sciatica nerve and arteries by centimeters. He was rushed to Army’s base hospital, immediately operated upon by specialists and is stable.
Air Marshal S B Deo, a fighter pilot, who’s had two ejections during his 39-year long career in IAF as a fighter pilot, became vice chief last year. He has had one of the longest tenures as a 3-star becoming air marshal in 2013. He was DGAO, C-in-C in East and West too. He is to retire this Sunday.
