Group Captain Farooq Fareed Nabi Retires After 33 Years of Service to the Nation

Throughout his career, Group Captain Nabi has been celebrated for his exceptional leadership, profound knowledge in Air Defence Radars, Tropo Communication, and Electronic Warfare.

In an emotional ceremony marked by reverence and gratitude, Group Captain Farooq Fareed Nabi of the Indian Air Force (IAF) retired today after 33 years of illustrious service. Hailing from Rajouri, Group Captain Nabi has been a symbol of dedication and commitment, significantly contributing to the defense of India.

The retirement ceremony was highlighted by Group Captain Nabi’s homage to the nation’s fallen heroes at the National War Memorial in New Delhi, an act reflecting his deep respect for those who laid down their lives for the country.

Throughout his career, Group Captain Nabi has been celebrated for his exceptional leadership, profound knowledge in Air Defence Radars, Tropo Communication, and Electronic Warfare. His operational experience is vast, encompassing significant roles in Op Rakshak, Op Vijay, and Op Prakaram. Moreover, his command over Defence Satellites post his advanced training at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) underscores his versatility and technical prowess.

In his tenure, he also served as the Director of Indigenisation, Director of Air Force Publication and Quality Assurance at Air Headquarters, besides leading a frontline IAF base. Group Captain Nabi’s approach to leadership was always underpinned by compassion and empathy, endearing him to both his peers and subordinates.

An ardent skier, trekker, and squash player, his zest for life extends beyond his professional commitments. His farewell address was a heartfelt acknowledgment of the support from his mentors, colleagues, and family, which bolstered him through his journey in the Air Force. He pledged to continue serving the nation with the same fervor, albeit in a different capacity following his retirement.

Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, Chief of the Air Staff, lauded Group Captain Nabi’s service to the nation during their last interaction, wishing him well for his future endeavors.
