In a significant appointment within the Indian Army, Major General Vinod Kumar Nambiar has taken command as the Commandant of the Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School (CIJWS), Vairengte, Mizoram. The announcement was made by Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, along with all ranks of the Army Training Command (ARTRAC), extending their hearty congratulations to Maj Gen Nambiar on his new role.
The CIJWS, Vairengte, is renowned for its rigorous training programs and has been classified as a Category A training institute. Since its establishment in 1967, the school has been at the forefront of preparing soldiers for guerilla warfare, counter-insurgency operations, jungle survival, and conducting jungle ambush attacks. This prestigious institution not only serves the Indian Army but also provides specialized training to international soldiers from countries including the US, France, UK, Singapore, Bangladesh, Nepal, Israel, and Italy.
Maj Gen Nambiar’s appointment comes at a time when the importance of unconventional warfare and counter-insurgency operations is increasingly recognized globally. Under his leadership, CIJWS is expected to continue its legacy of excellence and adapt to the evolving dynamics of military engagement, emphasizing practical skills such as identifying and defusing Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), mastering jungle survival techniques, and counter-terrorism strategies.
