In a significant ceremony held on the last day of April 2024, Lovely Professional University (LPU) celebrated as its Pro-Chancellor, Mrs. Rashmi Mittal, was honored with the honorary rank of Colonel in the National Cadet Corps (NCC). The commendation took place during the distinguished ‘Pipping ceremony’ at the Infantry Mess in New Delhi, marking a landmark moment for the university.
The ceremony featured the presence of Major General Rajiv Chhibber, SM, who alongside Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Rajya Sabha Member and Founder Chancellor of LPU, participated in the ceremony. In a traditional display of honor, Dr. Mittal, accompanied by Maj. Gen. Chhibber and Brigadier IS Bhalla, adorned Mrs. Mittal’s shoulders with the prestigious insignia, officially designating her as Colonel ‘Commandant’ of the University NCC Wing.
Upon her return to the LPU campus, Colonel Mrs. Mittal was met with a grand reception. Hundreds of NCC students lined up to give a ceremonial Guard of Honour, demonstrating their respect and admiration for their new Commandant. The event witnessed significant attendance from the university’s faculty, department heads, and staff, all showing their support for Mrs. Mittal’s commendable achievement.
During her address, Colonel Mrs. Mittal expressed deep gratitude and humility for the honor. “Wearing this beautiful uniform fills me with humility and deep gratitude for being named an honorary colonel in the Army. I cannot think of a higher honour I could have possibly received!” she remarked. She also reflected on her personal connection to the military, crediting her upbringing in the Jalandhar Cantonment for providing her with valuable insights into military life.
Mrs. Mittal praised the Army’s core values of structure, teamwork, and goal alignment, which she believes are essential lessons for any organization. She also commended the performance of the NCC units at LPU, noting their consistent achievements on the national stage.
Since the establishment of the NCC at LPU in 2012, Colonel Mrs. Mittal has played a pivotal role in its activities, continuously inspiring cadets and addressing their needs with dedication. Her leadership and vision continue to enrich the university community, propelling LPU’s NCC Wing to new heights.
