Lieutenant General J S Sidana, AVSM, Director General of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (DGEME) and Senior Colonel Commandant, conducted a comprehensive visit to the 515 Army Base Workshop in Bengaluru. This visit aimed to review the ongoing initiatives designed to enhance the combat potential and operational readiness of the unit.
During his visit, Lt Gen Sidana was briefed on several key projects and technologies being developed within the workshop, with a special emphasis on the integration of cutting-edge manufacturing techniques from the private sector.
Notably, the focus was on additive (3D printing) and hybrid technologies, which are pivotal in advancing the capabilities of the Indian Army in line with the Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) initiative.
The General Officer explored collaborations that leverage modern manufacturing technologies, aiming to reduce reliance on foreign imports by enhancing the domestic production capabilities essential for national defense.
His visit underscores the strategic shift towards incorporating innovative and advanced technological solutions that bolster the army’s self-sufficiency and readiness.
